Yeah, if you go back you will see it's been quite the journey. Should have listened to my gut and gotten the V6 TDI one rather but noooo, PhireSide mos wanted to hit his head with that TFSI engine. WRT the speaker, I think the amp might be at fault as the entire right channel seems to have disappeared. They can be had for 10 or so quid from eBay so it's not a train smash.
I feel you on the parts availability. Reason I went with the B7 as they are pretty commonplace and parts are still readily available for the most part. The only parts I'd battle with would be parts that are Avant-specific (theoretically). You should post up some pics of your A8

We are selling our 2000 Audi A6, 2.8l V6 Quattro due to relocation. Very rare to find especially in such a great condition! The car is overall in great condition for its age inside and outside. Full Service history & low mileage. The car is in daily use.

i was looking at a b8 2.0t manual avant in charcoal with cinnamon seats but i lost out on it. Ended up with a Q5 which is now in for the gearbox . If i had taken the avant it wouldnt of had the gearbox issue but had the problem 2.0t motor. Iv learnt to stay away from certain models.
You ultimately have to do research and even then you might have a issue but its for the love of the brand and when it all works its much more rewarding than some other common car on the road.
Here are some pics i have from my phone. I must scratch on my pc to find more. The car sits in jhb warehoused as i dont have space in durban for it and my brother can work on it as he can. The wheels and tyres on it are wrong i know. The original rims are a odd ball size of 225/55/17 and are expensive and hard to find.the old ones are so perished from standing.So its running these off one of the audis my brother has until i can find 18s that suit the styling

What’s the story behind that A6? Looks proper nice.
Its a A8 D2 i have ,Phireside asked for pictures. The A6 in previous posts is for sale on facebook. I used to daily the A8 it until parts started getting really hard to find along with the cost of fuel. Its a awesome open road cruiser but hates city traffic.

Apologies - typo. I meant A8. It’s very beautiful.
No problem .I love the styling , so simple and elegant. i still end up looking at it and spotting lines on it that look so good. Its a pity the styling of modern cars seems to be trying too hard.
The D3 was a big improvement but from the D4 it went downhill. New models dont even have fabric in the door inserts just this rubber mold. My D2 has alcantara and its not even a special spec.

Really digging the A8, Curt! You really don't see many of them on the roads, especially not ones of that vintage.
Got some more work done on the Avant today when I had some moments spare. Reinstalled the sunroof glass that I took off when I was drying the roof cavity out, fixed the speaker issue (corrosion on the amp connector and pins from water ingress), cleaned out the interior again with a 50/50 vinegar/water mixture to try kill off the mould and unplugged the coils. The last bit was very NB as at present, the oil sender unit is MIA so if I happen to forget that little fact and crank the car, I will end up evacuating the contents of the sump onto the garage floor in a matter of seconds.
Amp connector:
I'm waiting for the mechanic to let me know if he is up for taking on my 'project', although understandably he is hesitant to continue on where someone else has left off. Also, my headliner glue has given way in the trunk area, so I will definitely need to get it reupholstered at some stage. I also took the bumper outside and gave it a good wash, along with the parts that aren't installed and were floating around in the trunk. Unfortunately, some of the parts gouged the headlights as well, so they are all scratched up but that I can fix with some flatting paper and a polish at a later stage. When I get my bolts and fasteners back, I'll reinstall the bumper stiffener and put the bumper back on along with the headlights, and then it should start resembling an A4 again

The roof lining shouldnt be too bad to remove and get done as you have a giant door at the back.
I have seen those little plastic boxes with the silicone in them at the shop to remove dampness out your cupboards, would be worth a try.
I used to have a waterleak on the a4 which took me ages to find. Was the weirdest thing. If it rained lightly or short burst it would be fine. But a puddle or long persistent rain it would flood out under the drivers carpet. I stripped half the dash in the rain at times to find it but nothing.
It eventually was traced to the grommet on the accelerator cable.
But i used to lift the carpet up and put a empty 2liter coke bottle under the carpet to hold it up so that it could dry. Somerhing similar might work for you .

Thats madness its like a pool in there. The humidity in there must be crazy.
Its a common issue on sunroof vw and audi's and i have heard of alot of this era Tiguan's with a sunroof drain problem

Yep, very common issues on VAG cars with panoramic sunroofs, not sure of other makes of vehiccles.

And besides high oil and fuel consumption, the engine still ran reasonably well. It took us to Knysna and Port Alfred many times in this state.
I think I'll name the car Bon Jovi because it really was on it's last legs for a good long while.

Nothing in particular - the engine was just not maintained properly before I took ownership so a lot of small things ended up being wrong (and a lot of big things)
