Just make sure about exactly what extras it has in. It says all extras, but it doesn't have full LED headlights so just make sure.
 
Lol. Will see what Audi Airport can do with it first. Not prepared to spend more than R350k including on the road etc.. So Airport must make a plan.

I'd say give Cayenne a call and ask for a trade in value on your A6. I'm pretty sure you could drop that price by at least 20k fairly easily... Its difficult to sell an A8

I would need to get my A6 back first (reverse the deal IOW).
Audi Airport are happy to find me another car, but I think they will be reluctant to hand over the deal to someone else.
They will want to negotiate with Cayenne, get the car, then let me return the A5 and re-do financing etc...

That's your best bet, second best would be to reverse the deal...
 
For the okes in the know (and looking at you Debeer). I have understood from comments here that the A5 trade-in value is better compared to > A5. Considering my ultimate plan is to own an A7 in 2.5 to 3 years, would it not make sense to suck it up and stick with the A5 until then?

Hmmm...... You already have proof of that here, that A8 was 1,124,000 new before any extras, and you can buy it for a third of that price 4 years on. So yes, higher up cars do depreciate quicker.

On that note, I would estimate that after three years the 8 and 5 would have similar values due to the new models. The new A8 came out a few months ago, so it has already gotten that dip to value, and won't be getting a new one by the time you trade in. The A5 however is also one generation behind, but the new A4 is coming next year, and the A5 soon thereafter, which would make your 5 take another dip as it is now two generations behind.

There could be a difference of a few tens in three years time, but honestly not much considering the actual cars being discussed. Is an A8, which is the top end Audi worth an extra 10 to 20 in depreciation over three years compared to an A5 which you already want to trade in due to dissatisfaction?

Bigger Audis don't hold their resale as well as the smaller ones, that's a definite. If you feel you want to keep the A5, then yes keep it. If you feel you'd prefer another car, it would make more sense to drive what you love - especially when you spend so much on the car
 
If we all went with what made the most sense, we'd be driving things like Corollas and Polos. Those don't lose value quickly.

In a case like this, you should go with the one you love the most....

But if you go for an A8, I don't see you moving to an A7 tbh.

Agreed. If you have highest priority on an A7 in a few years then logistically it would be best to take an A3 sedan as I'm sure it's going to be the slowest depreciating Audi currently available. But we both know that isn't happening haha

I was also thinking about the A8 - > A7 issue at trade in. It wouldn't be as big a change as it is from 6 to 5, but it would be somewhat similar. One is more comfortable, the other more dynamic and sporty, but both are great cars. Plus by trade in time the new A7 would have released and that would be one more step closer to the A8, heck some reviewers think the 7 is a better car than the 8 right now, but it's subjective.
 
The problem is the mileage. I do just around 600kms a week so piling the mileage into the vehicle. I can't keep any car for that long and this is what prompted me to trade my A6 as it was approaching 180k KMs.

Now - on the common sense part. I owed R65k still on my A6 when I traded it in. The most sensible decision me thinks is to get her back, and let Audi finance it for another year or 2. When the time comes for the A7, I won't owe anything on my A6 and could use whatever I get for her as deposit and drive away in my A7.
In 3 years the A6 will be on around 270k KMs. Should make it fine though as most of it is freeway and the car is still solid and not showing any signs of wear.

If you take this in its simplest form... It is like me purchasing a 2007 A6 3.2 FSi Quattro, black, 19" alloys (inc spare), sunroof, electric seats, CD shuttle, water detection on windscreen and servotronic steering (never appreciated this much until the A5) all for R65k.
Looking at it this way doesn't it make sense?

Thing is, refinancing the same car is a bad idea though it's too late to reinstate your previous finance agreement. You're better off looking for a cheaper A6 (maybe a 3.0 TDI?) With lower mileage

That would be a plus. Hatfield has one but Airport can't strike a deal with them.

Exactly. The cheapest option in the long term is almost always avoiding any purchase in the short term.

Yes, you love your 6 a lot, I could see that myself. And yes, refinancing the value would be cheaper. Over two years is about 3000 a month (not sure how long they'd give you for balloon debt, which I assume is what it is?). Yes, the depreciation in absolute terms would be from 90k to 50k or less, so let's say 40 down the drain, which is a lot less than 380 to 200 or whatever it is by that time.

It comes down to how heavily you want to prioritize your A7 purchase in a few years when the kids are almost heading to college and need their own cars possibly as well. You could reasonably afford the A8 right now, but it's up to you.

Hatfield has a 3.0 TDI? Can't see it on their pre-owned listing, might have gone already. Only see the white 2.0 TFSI
