The Audi Thread

Hello All,

Does anyone here know the cost to service an Audi A3 by the agents after the 5 year motorplan expires?
At the 6th Year, probably looking at the car with around 70k km.

Thanks
Probably best that you phone them to find out. Then get comparative quotes from some non-Audi servicing centers. Feedback if you find out please? I'll be in the same boat next year as you.

I got a quote of about R2200 for my Audi for the 75k km service from a non agent service centre. It's an A4, but guess the costs would be fairly similar to an A3. Have not gotten a quote from the agents yet.

Available at brick and mortar retail outlets?

Makro as PP suggested, or Builders. Think I paid R110 for my last bottle - they tend to last.

Makro. Cheaper than that site.

I see no reason to stop using Windowlene. I have several Meguiar's products, but won't be adding this to my kit.

I haven't tried windowlene myself, will give it a go after this bottle runs out.

Could the first private lunar rover be an Audi? The car maker has announced a partnership with one of the teams competing for the Google-sponsored*Lunar XPrize*– the Part-Time Scientists. Audi will provide technical expertise in building an unmanned rover that aims to set down in the vicinity of the Apollo 17 landing site in 2017....

I tend to agree with you on that one. My mind says wait, while my ass says it has an itch and it needs to be scratched :-)

Well, a new 2016 A4 with toys will be close to R500 000. Have a look at the prices of the B7 A4 compared to the B8 A4 to get an idea of what they are worth after 5,6,7,8 years. I would guess about R40k to R60k difference between previous and new models.

On this topic, with the new A4 coming out late '15 - early '16 - how big of an impact will the new model have on the pricing of the existing one? Looking at getting a +-2 year old model with <40k km, and I'm thinking the new model should depress the prices of the old one, but the question is by how much?

Out of plan, with respectable mileage (100,000km) and in good condition, private...

2005 - 2006 B7s go for ±R90,000 (2.0), ±R100,000 (2.0T)

2007 B7s go for ±R100,000 (2.0), ±R110,000 (2.0T)

2008 - 2012 B8s ±R150,000 (1.8T), ±R160,000 (2.0T)

>2012 B8.5s (facelift, still in plan) ±R220,000 (1.8T) - ±R240,000 (2.0T)

IMO.

Thanks Gaz and PostmanPot. The numbers above correspond to what I've seen advertised online (add +-R30k to get dealership pricing).
The one thing I picked up is that 2.0Ts are very scarce - vast majority for sale is 1.8T and 2.0TDI

I am considering getting rid of my A4 b7 MT, hasn't given me much trouble, love it to death.... but its now on 90k, been out of plan for a few years now. So I can't decide if I should sell her while the going is good, but that means $$$$$ to get something else.

What advise would you give?

90,000km? :wtf:

Keep it. Sell when closer to 190,000km.

There's not that much work needed to be done to maintain it for another 100,000km. At about 120,000km you can do the waterpump and cam belt (if necessary, usually as preventative maintenance, around R12,000 for these), might need to do the control arms soon though (±R8,000).

Wait longer for the B8 price to come down (when B9 is released soon), if you're going Audi A4 again.

You'll miss the B7 though...

Ok, glad to hear that. I thought I needed to do the cam belt now at 90k? When you say control arms I think of a slight knocking sound coming from the front right, especially when going over annoying small humps and bumps. I would rather spend what you have mentioned above than buy new. Its not worth selling.. . renault offered me R70k for it. :wtf:

Quite likely. New control arms nearly make the car feel as good as new again. Good to get new tyres with them.

Read the manual.

Good chance you only need to change the cambelt at 180 000km.

Of course everyone will tell you to do it before then because that's what they just always do.

R12k sounds a bit rough though, unless it's dealership price then yes that's probably the going rate.
