The best antivirus

Which of these antivirus software do you consider to be the best?

How big is your hard drive? I have nearly 8 Terabytes of data across 7 computers with archives going back more than ten years. There are files in there that I absolutely positively know are not viruses or spyware... but they got flagged on heuristics or because they contain "hooks" or keyloggers. I know they contain keyloggers... there are some legitimate purposes for keyloggers... but Avast thinks all keyloggers are bad and just wants to delete them... same with "joke programs"... same with "key hooks" (game trainers that look for a certain key combination). Avast just wants to delete them and refuses to do anything else with them (if you click "exclude" or "quarantine" it does nothing).

Just the same with AVG 8 - keygens just disappear, and I have config'd it to warn me before it does anything with the ' suspect ' files it finds.

Perhaps it should be renamed Malema Anti-Virus cos it does what it likes and doesn't listen when its talked to.

LOL... Avira has the same problem.... as I said I am using BitDefender... but I am on the lookout for a better anti-virus package. I would go straight to NOD32 or Kaspersky, if I didn't have to fork out a small mortgage to register all 7 computers. :(
 
I was using AVG8 FREE for a very long time. Then I installed a Trial version of Bitdefender 2009.

It picked up plenty of virusses on my external harddrives. So it's definately much better then AVG. Only problem is that it uses lots of bandwidth. Almost every day there is a new program update en definition file that's anything between 1MB and 50MB.

I only have 600GB or so on my own PC, so not that much. But I've installed Avast on probably 40+ customers' PCs without seeing such issues. Most are typical home installations though - not much in the way of downloaded software.

This is true. I just installed a fresh copy of BitDefender 10 Free on a new laptop and it downloaded over 300 Mb of updates! :eek:
 
bitdefender internet security (paid)
works well and self updates all the time. complete hassle free protection.
2nd machine: use nod 32 , trial with manual update of signatures (but free!!). so far so good.

usually on first install to get up to date but after that, files are generally small.
