Thanks, I'll give it a try out, already have the installer for it, haven't got around to installing it yet.
 
I've been very happy with Avast; free, does the job, very light on resources.

I've been using Avast for a couple of years now. I like the fact that it works and updates regularly. Only virus issue I had was with Tenga. Tenga deletes all unlocked .EXE's and replaced it with itself. Lost all my drivers.

We've been using Norton at work. It sucks. Cannot clean irretating Malware. If I ever see a "cannot find copy.exe" when I double click a drive in My Computer I'll sh*t myself. I slows down PC's exponentially.
 
AVG has way too many false positives. (Generic trojan anyone?)
It works well though but once it didn't detect a virus fully (delf trojan), only the files in the windows folder, not ALL of the infected EXEs, meaning my whole pc was infected.
Avast saved me :)

I use Avast Home, darn good program. For me I've found it to scan faster than the old AVG 7.5, and it picked quite a few more nasty things that AVG missed.

Use Avast, along with Comodo Firewall and SpyBot with resident protection on, and it's a pretty secure system. Not perfect of course but close.

NOD32 is also highly recommended, it's worth paying for.
 
I also use Avast. :D I actually never used an anti-virus/spyware solution for 4 years, then decided to clean up my system... Avast found all 86 or something viruses :D.

Side note: My PC performance didnt even improve after deleting the 86 odd viruses :'(
 
I have found the best way to keep viruses at bay.
1. Cancel telkom, vodacom or iburst internet accounts
2. Format your hard drives and burn all your dvds and cds
3. Destroy all removable storage devices.
4. Burn Hardy or similar at your local toaster
5. Install Hardy or similar.
6. Remove and destroy floppy drives and optical drives
7. Disable all wlan, ethernet or bluethooth devices
7. Live happily ever after (virus free I may add)

Switching from Norton (bug-ridden piece of rubbish) to BitDefender was an amazing experience. The latter is so much more conservative than Norton and doesn't scream at you every few seconds.
