So who has the best bang for your buck local only account? Is there a big difference between IS and SAIX news server speed? Looking for the cheapest 30+GB option please.
Thanx

Well I download nzb's, many of them and in my experience on a 2mb line (syncing at 2.5) and using both SAIX and IS, IS is useless. SAIX flies like a rocket on speed but yet IS is so erratic and is mostly dead. There is a reason SAIX is more expensive IMO

I had a look at web africa and the normal "local" bandwidth is to expensive (because of stupid telkom prices), whereas the "local IS" is a good deal (30GB R130)..I have a 384kbps line, at what speeds could I expect to connect to the IS news server (both cached and uncached).
Also I would assume that the OpenWeb 30GB local is the same as WebAfrica local IS, right?

Openweb are easier to get signed up with. Support not as good. Get a bit of free international with OW though, which swung the deal for me.

Iv read at the newshost forums that people with WA local also sometimes squeeze international out of it aswell. LOL WA is R1 cheaper than OpenWeb.

EDIT:
I am thinking of getting an AFRIHOST (3GB) account and a WA/OW 30GB account. Total would be +/- R217. Do you guys think this is a good idea? Do the IS local packages provide stable normal local browsing (eg. MyBB, gaming, etc..)? And is Afrihost stable?

I had a 10GB IS local only account with WA in december. Normal browsing was fine, but the news server was USELESS the whole month. Rather spend more and get a SAIX account. Then at least you can use all of it.

If i wanted a 10GB local package I would go with TelkomInternet (1GB int + 10GB local = R70) But I dont know what to take now...

If you are willing to pay that amount for 3GB int and 30GB local, then I suggest you look closely at what you said below. I'm not sure which Telkom package that is, but if you do the math you will find that it is R7 cheaper than what you mentioned in the above quote.
I have just learnt to use the NZBs and I'm with Telkom and have a little of Afrihost, I can tell you that SAIX is flying when it comes to that stuff. I have a 384 line and I get roughly 36.7kB/s on average.
Afrihost is the best by the way! :D It's just a pity I was tricked into signing a 24-month contract with Telkom 6 months ago. So you must run away from contracts!!!

Get that if you can and times it by 3, then you will get what you wanted initially.

I thought about what you are saying, but I dont like the fact that I must use my international 1st before i can use my local..catch my drift?..I want to run routesentry with a local only and international account.will make my life much easier so that I can download from local at anytime i want to.

Just consider the international from telkom a bonus then and use afrihost for your international. Thats what I do.

WebAfrica just informed me that they no longer have the R130 for 30GB local only product (supplied via IS).

Any other ISP to consider?
