The best ways to get uncapped Internet in SA

I mean I just told you that I do it. What kind of proof do you want? Would you like to come to my house and see?

Of course they recommend having a bit of overhead. That way you don't get interruptions when someone answers a WhatsApp call or something. But it's not as though it won't work with a bit less bandwidth.
I can also do 4K on Netflix on a 10Mbps line

ADSL is alright however Fibre beats ADSL any day!
Some people are in unlucky areas where Fibre keeps dropping due to poor input of the infrastructure.
With RAIN, first check if you have 5G. 4G is useless at times.

Netflix started re-encoding a lot of shows last year since the huge uptake of its services due to COVID.

Disenchantment for one has been re-encoded to a whopping 2.10Mbps which is very low for 4k, but still 4k, so easily doable by a 10Mbit line.

Not all shows seem to have been re-encoded yet so a 10Mbit line won't handle 4k on all shows, but should be fine for a few of them. Youtube also has some very low encoded 4k content, some not.

Edit: I added a 9Mbit (to simulate 10Mbit overhead) limit to my WAN interface on the router to test and it handled Disenchantment at 4k perfectly fine without maxing out the line constantly at all.

Can you also get 4K with live action on this line?

The compression of animated scenes are so much more efficient due to the fact that they only use a few colours to create the picture.

You can count the amount of colours used in this example on two hands.

Note: I said, some content, not all content. The point is still you claimed it's highly unlikely that people can stream 4k on 10Mbit.

I showed you how it's very possible to stream 4k on 10Mbit (That was the claim? You didn't specify live-action shows only) after Netflix started re-encoding a lot of their shows.

I gave the facts as stated on the content providers' own websites.

See the links?

To claim something is to make baseless statements.

Another link of various other content providers indicating minimum bandwidth requirements for the different resolutions:

I had Axxess Just DSL 10mbps installed at my house and I must say this is true uncapped unshaped unthrottled internet with No FUP. 24/7 internet and we can stream Netflix in FHD and downloads are a bliss. Fiber is being laid in my area, so in the meantime we have a great internet experience. We will switch to fiber when it becomes available and keep the Just DSL as backup. I would recommend Axxess Just DSL to anyone, that can get the service in their area.
31 days and still waiting for Axxess to send me the router login details ...

Most incompetent staff I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with! Not even their owner has bothered to respond to my query as to what the delay is.

Let's tango for one more round.

Using your source of truth:

Read the websites again, carefully this time. Both state "recommend" x speed. Recommended and minimum does not mean the same thing.

If Netflix recommends 25Mbits and someone else can watch at a lower speed, it doesn't contradict Netflix's "facts"

The word "recommended" in itself means that it should work on lower speeds as it's just the recommendation, not the minimum requirement. One word, making such a huge difference.

I believe you need to retract a statement from earlier?

I gave up long ago.

4k streaming works on my 10Mb/s line just fine. I don't need to prove to some rando on the internet that I'm enjoying myself. I just sit back and enjoy myself.

That is just wrong from their side. I take your line was installed and router connected, but you have not received the DSL package username and password. Have you logged support tickets on your account? If I had a problem with the service, I logged a ticket and they have always responded to me fast and it was sorted out. I just had to wait almost a week for the line to be "signed off" to Axxess from Openserve side. Line installation was also don rather quickly. You can also try to contact them via e-mail on [email protected] or [email protected] I hope you get sorted out quickly and also experience fast uncapped unthrottled unshaped internet like I do.

If I can say, don't waste your time with Rain 4G - it worked like a charm in the beginning, later the service got so bad that the connection was shaped to death that not even Netflix want to work - the towers are so congested, and the network is oversubscribed. After too much frustration I cancelled Rain and got Axxess Just DSL and I am more than happy with their uncapped unshaped unthrottled internet with no usage limits and it is heaven. I would recommend Axxess Just DSL to anyone that has an Openserve line running into the house and does not have option of fiber.

I have been connected via Telkom since ADSL first was a thing, using various ISP's since then. This is what the nincompoops at Axxess don't seem to understand: my ISP is separate to my Telkom (Openserve) line and, to avoid me sitting without internet, I will cancel my month-to-month ISP after I start with Axxess - how difficult is this for them to understand?

I have support tickets that are as long as the road leading right up to City Hall, and even telephoning them did not seem to help either!

Grrrrr!

Good day, as far as I know, the old Telkom ADSL service (DSL line and telephone number) and the Just DSL service are two completely separate services where Openserve physical come and do a new line installation in your house, they either use the second pair of copper wires in your existing line, or pull a new line from the telephone pole. I was told that I must order a new line with Axxess and Openserve technician will contact me to come and do the installation of the line. I have a existing line running into the house, so they used the existing line connected to the socket and connected the modem to it. They then connect you to the DSLAM port on the Openserve exchange, so you will first have two services active, the one that you are using Telkom ADSL and the other Axxess DSL. When Axxess is up and running you can cancel the existing Telkom service (ADSL and telephone number) and carry on using the Axxess DSL service. I could be wrong, but that was what I was told that Axxess DSL is completely new line installation. Good luck - I hope they can sort you out.

Hi there, Could you send me your account details to my email address at [email protected] then ill check it out for you.

This is just the thing:

According to the Openserve technician that came to my house all that is required is that my number is migrated via Axxess as they (Openserve) already manage the (underground) lines in my area. This is apparently the issue that Axxess cannot understand.
