Recently got introduced to bitcoins.
have no idea where to start

Dont bother mining yourself these days - there is absolutely no way for you to compete with the farms. You can trade bitcoin now more or less like futures/forex... some chance for speculation and profit, but probably very difficult/risky for a newby. If you are going to play the game only use money that you expect to lose, and absolutely do not consider it an investment - it isnt.

What did you have in mind - you wanting to trade or use to make purchases? Either way for convenience and ease of startup I'd suggest a bitx account to buy / sell. They do require ID checks tho.

Unless you actually want to buy/sell stuff with BTC, think of it as a long term lottery ticket. Maybe the long awaited mainstream adoption or Chinese/etc capital flight into digital currency will happen and it will increase exponentially in value, or the whole thing will fizzle due to a better competing platform, regulation or general lack of interest. There's really no way of knowing where it's going. Otherwise you can watch it like a hawk and try to ride the up/down cycles for shorter term trading, but that's probably a sure way to lose unless you are really really good/lucky.

I want to use it for buying goods. I see even takealot accepts bitcoins

Or just quadruple overnight.

That's what makes Bitcoin such a nice gamble if you have spare money laying around.

Nah, even the major increases or decreases in price (like ±20%) happens over a couple of days. Also, TA goes a long way towards making informed trades. There's no certainty, of course, but often times there are indicators as to what will probably happen next.

At some point, you have to take your profit. I made about 10k since January for which I'm grateful, so until the market signals a bigger risk appetite, I'll monitor it closely from the sidelines.

In that case get an account at bitx.co.za
You fund your bitx account via EFT, buy bitcoins via bitx and pay with your bitx wallet. The Android app is also very handy.

If you want to buy bitcoins when they're cheaper, install the bitcoin tracker widget and keep an eye on the prices as they fluctuate. If you keep some ZAR in your bitx account you can then buy whenever the price gets low.

update: so I managed to sign up with BITX :)

I just want to know, is it possible to have more than 1 x wallet with BITX or do I have to open another account with another bitcoins dealer?

Why do you need two BTC wallets?

As far as I know, BitX only allows for one wallet. You can indeed open an account with a different local exchange, but from what I've read, it seems the other exchanges charge higher fees and provide an inferior service. I might be wrong though - I've not tried them myself.

I think bitx allows you to set up additional receive addresses. However, you can acquire additional wallets without going through an exchange - the exchange is only useful for buying and selling bitcoin. An exchange-independent wallet will function as a storage for your coin - you can only send, store and receive bitcoin. See the link below for suggestions:

BITX allows more than one address... I finally figured out how their system works :)

Does anyone know of an Investment Management Fund like Allan Gray/Investec/Coronation that offers diversification into Bitcoin/crypto along side the usual things like equity/bonds/cash/property?

Why don't you just invest yourself?

I already have, but I'd like to make separate incremental investments in a separate investment vehicle that happens to hold a portion in Bitcoin/crypto as well.
