Ok so I'm new to paying with bitcoin. I want to subscribe to a service. I've registered with bitx.co.za. The service I want to subscribe to has this on their order page:

So I assume I buy BTC 0.0335386 and send it to Wallet 1H7KEHHAjWGCbLxzfzw2g4pKaTLuuD72Zf, right? Does one get to enter an account/email address when sending it? What's the Bitcoin URI for?

OK.. So the URI is basically your receipt and "tracking" mechanism. You click on that link to see if the payment has been confirmed.
So as for payment.. When you say you want to pay, the site/system should create a new receiving address for your specific account. So when a payment comes through, they'll know it's from your account.

Might help a bit if you mentioned the service.

Thanks, koeksGHT mentioned in TK that the wallet is uniquely generated from my logged in account.

Ok it all makes much more sense now.

@bio: Fwiw if you have the bitx app on your phone you can scan the QR code to do the payment. I sometimes prefer to trust that than copy/pasting the wallet address myself.

Bitcoin, a Florida judge says, is not real money. Ironically, that could provide a boost to use of the crypto-currency which has remained in the shadows of the financial system.



The July 22 ruling by Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Teresa Pooler means that no specific license is needed to buy and sell bitcoins.

Does anybody here have any easy way to convert PayPal to BTC?
Most sites say it's due to fraud that they charge a fee,

Should I use localbitcoins.co.za or negotiate with somebody here?

Anyone buying Ethereum? Microsoft seems to be quite committed to Eth. Pity no local exchanges yet AFAIK?

I'd say so, yes.

But buy in smaller increments over the next couple of days/weeks to ease the risk of a further drop.

I sold quite a few coins about two weeks ago at 9300ZAR - 9100ZAR (quite some slippage). I'd buy again if I still had this funds available for speculation.

In September, the National Treasury, the SA Reserve Bank (Sarb), the Financial Services Board (FSB), the South African Revenue Service (Sars) and the Financial Intelligence Centre issued a statement on virtual currencies.

"While there are benefits associated with this new technology, it is difficult to assess those benefits against the risks of something so novel, innovative and technologically sophisticated," Treasury said.

"Users of virtual currencies can therefore become susceptible to fraudulent or any other criminal behaviour as they may be less circumspect than usual when faced with the promise of high return investment opportunities."
