The Bitcoin Thread

So MTN got nailed with a billion dollar fine mainly because government officials were killed with un ricad simcards.

So MTN is slowly pulling out. Any company tied even unintentionally will be fined heavily. Oil isnt what it used to be price wise. From our sources Bitcoin exchanges will be hammered hard next. Boko Haram is too prominent in using bitcoin for the CIAs liking.

Im in cyberespionage just out of interest. Its my job
What on earth are you grasping at? Bitcoin ain't going anywhere but Up.

Prof basie, is that you?

I also have no clue what they're on about.
Still not sure how the MTN situation is similar to the BTC situation.
If there was no BTC it would've been USD. Would the dollar then be under threat because some atrocity was financed by it?

Who is this Corelli guy and why is his posts missing from the thread? I only see the quotes

Posted some comments to the effect that Bitcoin is like monopoly money, something about BitX and SARS, that it's illegal to give financial advice, and that Bitcoin will go the same way as MTN did in Nigeria because it used by terrorists and implied that the CIA (or whoever) will sabotage Bitcoin exchanges.

Claims to know all this because his(?) job is "cyberespionage". Regretting this rather indiscreet public disclosure, he went back and deleted his entire comment history. Except he can't delete the quoted comments. LOL. I assume school holidays have started?

Anybody else here building or have built an Eth/ETC mining rig? With the way Bitcoin is appreciating, I want to add a proper mining rig to my poor single GPU PC mining fandangle :-).

Was hoping we could share some tips on where to get the best components at the best prices locally. I see there are a few local online stores:

Specifically for mining:
www.bitmart.co.za

General PC components:
www.wootware.co.za
www.evertech.co.za

I need to get a well priced motherboard that will support 6 GPU's. And the risers. I think I have the rest covered. Will probably just build my own open frame housing..

Oh yeah, and will probably just go the Ubuntu route for OS. Looks like EthOS is overkill/expensive while ubuntu should do just fine.

Thanks BitX you pieces of ****!!! Unable to sell or even access the site or app due to a "system glitch". Yeah ****ing right, sounds just like easy equities during the Lonmin saga.

I managed to sell.
Always spread your coin around.

Hmm, seems BitX is going backwards. Between June and September last year, when I transferred funds, it would go through in the wee hours of the morning and be available early the next day.

Not anymore, it seems. Sent money via eft yesterday, and still nothing in my ZAR account.

Dang, gonna miss the dip :(

My payments clear in minutes, FNB to FNB.
Maybe you made the transfer after their cut-off times? Happened to me before.

So i'm also a noob. Interesting stuff you guys shared here. My question:

Use Bitx to buy and bittaddress.org to create a wallet ? (I assume Bitx is the best site for SA users, seeing Ice3x got bad ratings)

BitX, as do all exchanges, also offer a wallet.
Depends on what features you need - their app is great, so I use my BitX wallet for transactions and have a backup wallet somewhere safe.

what do you use as backup wallet? I've got some in Bitx and in Coinbase, but coinbase scaring me these days and seem they can take my BC's if they so choose.

I'd stay as far away from Coinbase as possible.
I use an airgap type system, my wallet backup and coins is stored on an external drive and a VM that signs the transactions when I move funds around.

Hardware wallets offer something similar too, I think.
