I use BitX to buy and my day to day wallet. You can also use them to store bitcoins from other exchanges.

If you want to use other websites to create wallets please be careful. There are some super dodgy sites out there that can take your coins (especially vanity wallets).

So i'm also a noob. Interesting stuff you guys shared here. My question:

Use Bitx to buy and bittaddress.org to create a wallet ? (I assume Bitx is the best site for SA users, seeing Ice3x got bad ratings)

Thanks Stoffel. Was looking at Blockchain and Electrum. So I gather from most of the info that for someone like me who just want to buy some bitcoins and keep for a while Bitx is the way to go for exchange and wallet.

yip bitx, just wish there was a way to see exactly how much you can withdraw in one go,
I sold on the last dip, made a healthy profit....

but took me a few attempts to figure out how much I can sell

I think it's 2 bitcoin at a time on instant buy and sell, but haven't had any issues with more than 2 on the exchange

On the exchange you can sell up to 100 BTC at a time.

I was in the 0.00 category but never figured out how much I could sell at one time, IE what is the max I can withdraw at one time,

It kept telling me insufficient funds...

had to do it in 2 batches to sell everything...

I'd stay as far away from Coinbase as possible.
I use an airgap type system, my wallet backup and coins is stored on an external drive and a VM that signs the transactions when I move funds around.

Hardware wallets offer something similar too, I think.

yeah, i'm trying to move away from coinbase. was one of the easier ones to store bc's when i first started.

Very bad form on their part not even sending out an email about the change.

I agree - they have our e-mail addresses as users, why didn't they communicate it as such? Very poor form :(

Hmmm... people are edgy enough with BTC exchanges given recent history that having an exchange change it's entire identity overnight without warning like this is really very questionable. FFS my first thought was that the exchange had somehow been hijacked.

Hi

We are excited to announce the rebranding of BitX to Luno: a brand that better reflects our identity and aspirations, and that will ultimately allow us to build better products and services for you.

BitX was founded in early 2013 to bring the power of digital currency to the world. We believe that decentralised digital currencies like Bitcoin will fundamentally change how the world views and uses money: cheaper, faster and safer transactions; more privacy and financial freedom; a significantly better user experience; and ultimately, more equality by giving everyone in the world access to the same financial system.

We changed our name to Luno to better reflect who we are and this future we are helping to build.

Luno means ‘moon’ and represents the shared sense of excitement we and our customers have about this new industry. At the same time it also reflects our responsibility in helping people safely escape the gravity of the existing financial system. Finally, the moon also emphasizes Bitcoin’s greater potential of open and equal access: no matter who you are or where you’re from, every night we all still see the same moon. It is one of the world’s only constants, and in many ways the world’s one true leveller.

Today we’re also announcing a host of new features including global credit card funding, a new learning portal and a great new website and mobile apps. You can find out more on our blog here.

If you have any questions about how our name change affects you, please visit our new Help Centre.

A very sincere thank you to all of you that have helped build this amazing community and made this journey possible. We’re very excited to continue serving you and make your Bitcoin experience the very best one.
