I don't know any stores that will accept gold as payment

I'm sure with some negotiating many a shop-keeper would happily take kruger rands off your hands.

The point is it is straight up misinformation. It is recognised an asset class in Japan, not money.

That doesn't contradict anything I said. It's an asset class that can be used for payments. It's still not considered as "money" in the same sense the yen is.

:erm: Money, like the yen, is also an asset class that can be used for payment, so what's the difference exactly?

Quite a lot actually, there are still a hell of a lot of things you can do with the yen that you can't do with bitcoin at the moment.

Yes, of course, Japan has only just passed these bills and there is work to be done but already major stores in Japan are starting to accept bitcoin.

From the link I posted earlier:
Come March, the Japanese cabinet passed a set of bills recognizing virtual currencies like bitcoin to contain asset-like-values that can be used to make payments and be transferred digitally. Fundamentally, bitcoin and digital currencies are to be officially recognized alongside fiat currencies, fulfilling a similar purpose.

Amending the Payment Services Act to include digital currencies as payments is related to a separate bill passed by Japan’s legislature in May 2016, one which mandated the regulation of digital currency exchanges by the FSA in Japan. CCN previously reported on an early draft of the proposed regulations in 2015.

Bitcoin and virtual currencies will be officially recognized as payments starting Saturday. However, the accounting framework for the use of digital currencies is still about six months away, leaving adopters and bitcoin companies in limbo.

For the hell of it just downloaded and messed around with NiceHash on my crappy CPU. $0.20 a day. lol. I thought it would be bad but not that bad. :)
Need to upgrade to a decent GPU but not sure if its worth it.

You do realise that there is more to money than just buying things don't you?

I'm talking about all of the financial regualations and laws that apply to bitcoin that makes it different to the yen. I'm reading about it on the actual JFSA site. Not some misleading bitcoin blogs with questionable journalism. There's a fark ton of regulations there, I'll have to take a shifty at them later.

Sure, I look forward to a report back.

You'll need the GPU.
Can mine with the CPU as well but you will maybe get R50 a month max

Are you mining with those 2 RX480s? If so how many MHs are you getting out of them on Nicehash? I'm keen to possibly build a dedicated rig or if by some miracle find Dash/ETH miners in stock somewhere.

A single 480 with modded bios will get around 30-31 mhash in Ethereum

I'll have a pritty decent PC soon but no dedicated GPU though, will it still be possible to mine?

A ryzen 1700/1700/1800x will get between $0.40 - $0.60 per day
an I7 5960x will get between $0.40 - $0.60 per day
an I7 6700k wil get around $0.20 - $0.30 per day
an I7 7700k wil get around $0.25 - $0.38 per day
an i5 6600k wil get around $0.12 - $0.20 per day
