The BMW M2 & M2 Competition Thread

Here Is BMW's M2 Competition Before You're Supposed To See It

The new BMW M2 Competition has been leaked to the world, thanks to BMW’s Australian portal releasing the information a bit early, which was picked up by a Slovenian BMW enthusiast site. Not only do all of these photographs depict the new 410-horsepower M4-engine-in-a-smaller-car hopped up M2, but they leaked a few technical specs of the car as well.

BMW is quoting the car has having 302 kilowatts, 550 Newton-meters of torque. That gives the M2 Competition about 15 fewer horses than the bigger M4, but the same torque rating of 410 lb-ft. The Competition is also quoted as sprinting from 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds with a dual clutch transmission, which the M4 can allegedly manage in 4.1 seconds.

Visually, the Competition model does not differ significantly from the existing M2, though the front fascia inlets are deeper than standard and the ‘kidney’ grille is now all black. The side mirrors are cribbed from the M4, and the ‘lightweight’ all-black wheels are new. There is no explicit mention of a manual gearbox in any of the leaked literature.

You can expect the M2 Competition to launch at the Beijing Motor Show later this month.

302 kW BMW M2 Competition Breaks Cover

Details of the BMW M2 Competition have leaked online ahead of its official reveal at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show later this month.

Images and details of the hardcore BMW M2 Competition have surfaced online and most importantly it will share the same biturbo, 6-cylinder 3.0-litre engine that powers the M4. The M2 Competition has been tuned to deliver 302 kW and 550 Nm of torque which means it will offer 30 kW and 50 Nm more than the standard M2 Coupe.

The beefed-up M2 Competition is expected to sprint from zero to 100 kph in 4.2 seconds using a dual-clutch automatic transmission while a manual version has yet to be confirmed.

In terms of design, the M2 Competition features an angular black kidney grille, modified front bumper with vents in the lower lip and rides on new 19-inch black alloy wheels. The black side mirrors are similar to those seen on the M4.

The interior benefits from M4 sports seats featuring M2 logos and configurable driver settings can be accessed via the M1 and M2 buttons on the left spoke of the steering wheel.

More details will be released at the official unveiling at the Beijing Motor Show which kicks off on 25 April 2018.

Normally I don't like the BMW Competition versions, but in this case it's great because any other rims are better than the standard black ones.

Price on the base M2 with some extras is already pretty crazy, so it won't be cheap!

Yeah normal M2, which this is replacing is currently around 1bar after discounts and adding the bare essentials. So the competition should be around R1.15M.

Don't think it's replacing will be a model along side "ordinary" M2

Yep, this will be an upgrade, not a replacement I don't think. I was thinking around 1.2/1.3m as well. That's Porsche Cayman 718 GTS money - granted the Porsche extras are pretty expensive, but a hardcore M2 vs a similar Cayman at a similar price, would be a tough choice.

Porsche or BMW - comes down to whether you want to attract panties or briefs...

According to many reports I've read, production of normal M2 will cease. Volumes are not enough to have an N55 (old) and S55 (new) based engine produced together.

I'll take the M2 thanks. Porsche have ruined a brilliant car by downgrading it to a 4cyl engine. :(

I got more panties with a VW polo than either a GT Porsche or M BMW ... No lie

Your Porsche was bright orange. If you took it to the East Rand you'd be a hit. They don't have any taste over there. :p
