The BMW X3 Thread

So, ummmm. I done a thing, traded in the x1 ( the blueberry) and now sitting with 2 x3's
the "new" ( demo) one, is the slightly downrated 18d sdrive, but every bit as good as the 2.0 xdrive. It actually handles and drives better, unlike the x1 sdrive, the x3 sdrive is a rear wheel drive. Best part.. it comes with a spare wheel :)

Buying a car with one of the fastest drops in value. I think not.

No wonder the country is so much in debt. Lets hike interest rates more I say.
I went to drive an ix3 yesterday, its insane! Im looking to "rent" it from BMW for 3 years, and they guarantee the buy back value in 3 years time

The sales guy is doing some number crunching, might be trading in my 2.0d x3 for a fully loaded ix3 , if the initial number crunching round is correct, on prime -4% 3 years ( return with less than 80000km on) i should be in at R2000 a month less than what im paying now

Estimated range on these is around 350-400 Km per charge, which is my weekly drive, and i can charge on weekends off solar :) ( they include a home charger box thing) - Fuel Save
the Include a R10000 charge card ( apparently for use at malls?!)
Charging at BMW dealership - free

Will still keep the one Diesel car for long road trips, but the work and back stuff, willing to give it a smash :D

Picked up the iX3 yesterday, what a blast! It takes a bit of getting used to, you effectively drive with just the accelerator, the regenerative braking which does some "charging" slows you down somewhat when taking your foot off the "go" peddle.

Its now the Mrs's daily driver, if my first run numbers add up, should save around 3k a month on fuel.

Charging once a week , on sun power , albeit it slower, as my solar setup is a 5kw system, i would have to set the charge rate lower to not overload the solar.

Worst case, use Eskom power for full tilt charging, but even then , a full charge from empty is approx 70KW/h ( 70 units) at R3.20 a unit , is R224 a full charge, for around 350km-400 depending on how much you push the "go" peddle ( and it goes).

This excludes the Charge card included in the deal with the car , for use at 3rd party chargers ( company called gridcars manages all this) to the value of R10k ( free charging at BMW dealerships)

Comparing the same range , the 2.0x drive would on avg ( town driving) worst case do around 15km/L , 350Km would be 23L ( give or take some) is R529 worth of diesel

This is going to be an interesting experiment :D

So here I sit with a paperweight ix3

They don’t play nicely with sunsynk inverters , even though it’s on the “mains” side, the inverter still somehow interferes with the charging system,

Oh dear, sorry to hear.

What are you going to do, if anything?

Bmw came, reset that car ( i had in the mean time done the firmware update on the inverter & enabled low noise mode)

And now it’s all happy chappy
