The Brexit Thread

Would love for our friends to provide us with a link pointing towards one single foreign company seeing the Brexit as an opportunity to expand its UK operations?

Dutch health-technology company Royal Philips NV may move manufacturing out of the U.K. in the event of a hard Brexit, as its chief executive officer warned that such an outcome would be a “serious threat” to the viability of its operations in the country.

“I am deeply concerned about the competitiveness of our operations in the U.K., especially our manufacturing operations,” Frans van Houten said in emailed comments to Bloomberg.

His company became the latest in a lengthening list of big businesses, including Jaguar Land Rover, Airbus and BMW to warn about the potentially serious consequences of a messy divorce. Van Houten said that additional costs for exports from its babycare products factory in the U.K., under any scenario that does not maintain the single customs union, would amount to the high single-digits as a percentage of sales. The plant is in Glemsford, Suffolk.

“This is a serious threat to the competitiveness of this factory and we need to do worst-case scenario planning,” Van Houten said. Philips currently employs 1,500 people in the U.K.

I would have to concur with the cheese eating surrender monkey (:p) the Brexit supporters have been asked to supply and never have (to my knowledge).

Where did I see people fitting this definition?

For Brexiters, truth is what you believe – even if it’s a lie

There is truth. One of the reasons for our current disastrous plight is that politicians, especially but not only on the Thatcherite Eurosceptic right, have come to feel that what is true is what they believe. Their beliefs may not correspond to reality but that does not matter. Others may think they shamelessly lie or deceive, but what matters is an intent to be truthful to their beliefs, even if the gap between what they say and what is true is so yawning anyone else would regard their utterances as bare-faced lies.

Leave.EU campaign met Russian officials as many as 11 times

Arron Banks’ Leave.EU campaign team met with Russian embassy officials as many as 11 times in the run-up to the EU referendum and in the two months beyond, documents seen by the Observer suggest – seven more times than Banks has admitted. The same documents suggest the Russian embassy extended a further four invitations to Brexit’s biggest funder, but it is not known if they were accepted.

It is the third time the number of such meetings has been revised upwards. For two years, Banks insisted his only contact with the Russian government consisted of one “boozy lunch” with the Russian ambassador.

Banks caught in more lies? How odd.

And so the clown car rolls on, now sans a few more would-be drivers. Perhaps this shedding of ballast will finally allow it to move in a single direction for more than 5 minutes?

Why foreign only? and why the need to expand direct UK operations?

Investing indirectly or expanding business deals will surely suffice?

Excellent news of the resignations. Let's hope Boris does as well. Hopefully the letters demanding a vote of no confidence are flooding into the 1922 committee.

May is a con artist who has completely lied about the manifesto.

I imagine you'll be equally thrilled once the General Election is called and the Tories lose.

I'm not thrilled by that prospect but sometimes a period of opposition is necessary for a party to renew itself. And if a Brexiteer is chosen as leader then it will be a price worth paying, IMO.

Are you deliberately being silly again?

Asking Chris for facts or truth :crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh:

;)

You are the person who has constantly lied about me in this thread. Perhaps you should look in the mirror? Saying I surf EDL Facebook pages and the like. :crylaugh:

Not from a foreign firm, but from a high tech exporter (who is probably not a member of the pro-EU CBI who largely represent big business and not SMMEs).

Because I want to see the impact on industry specifically.
