Didn't Remain say that Nissan would be one of the first to jump ship after Brexit?

When the government gives out huge bribes any business would be silly to refuse.

From what I heard £100,000,000 plus major tax incentives for Nissan was the price paid to get this.

Regardless, it's a huge boost for your end of the island.

The SA flame-grilled chicken franchise Nando's has had to temporarily shut down a number of its restaurants in Britain.

This is a result of chicken shortages caused by Brexit, a dearth of truck drivers and the Covid-19 pandemic, the New York Times reported on Saturday
“The chicken shortage might not be just a temporary problem. Britain is struggling with a national shortage of truck drivers, and a shortage of workers in its meat industry.

“The coronavirus is part of the problem, but so are new immigration and paperwork rules that came into effect with Brexit.”
“When Brexit happened on January 1, 2021, access to most EU workers was switched off, abruptly,” he said.

“Since then, many of the EU workers who were in the UK could not travel during Covid-19. A lot of them are now going back to their home country, but they’re not returning.”

Brexit is definitely the main issue, whilst England, Wales and Scotland have shortages Ireland and Northern Ireland (which still has access to the Single Market) don't.

Nando’s is in the news, and the situation is peri-peri serious. The South African chicken chain has been forced to temporarily close more than 40 of its outlets in Britain. On Twitter it told a customer that “the UK supply chain is having a bit of a ’mare right now”, but declined to say it was thanks to Brexit.

And yet if you’re in Ireland, either the Republic or the North, and mere mention of Nando’s triggers strong cravings for its peri-peri chicken, there shouldn’t be any problem procuring some as its Irish outlets are unaffected by the ’mare.

In a statement sent to i, Nando’s said: “Due to staff shortages, the UK food industry has been experiencing disruption across the supply chain and a number of our restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales [Northern Ireland is unaffected] have been impacted.

Pity that chickens can't be farmed anywhere in the UK. Must be something in the soil. Or maybe it's that sweet, sweet minimum-wage, zero-hours contracted staff that's missing that's the issue?

Had a laugh checking out the comments when it was posted on social media. Most saying how crap Nando's is, with some having to go to the next town/city because their local one was so bad.

You might have had a point but Nando's don’t do zero hours contracts. The problem is that the supply chain has broken down, that‘s the actual issue. They can’t get enough chicken to supply all their restaurants.

And yet it’s still one of the most popular restaurants in the UK…

Yeah I quite like my local one. Can't touch Nando's SA, obviously.
