BYD Sealion 06 electric SUV revealed

Chinese electric car giant BYD is expanding its popular Sealion family with the upcoming Sealion 06, a new electric SUV. Regulatory filings indicate that this latest addition will offer both fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions.

The Sealion 06 has appeared in a catalog released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), a regulatory step before any vehicle can be sold in China. This catalog includes details for three distinct battery electric Sealion 06 models and three plug-in hybrid variants. Production of the BEV models will take place at BYD's factories in Xi'an and Changzhou, while the PHEV versions will be manufactured in Xi'an.

In terms of size, the Sealion 06 measures a substantial 4,810 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and stands 1,675 mm tall. Its wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear wheels, is 2,820 mm. The weight of the new Sealion 06 ranges from 1,890 kg to 2,190 kg.

Performance-wise, all-electric versions of the Sealion 06 have a top speed of 185 km/h, while the plug-in hybrid models can reach 180 km/h. Buyers of the BEV Sealion 06 will have the choice between single-motor and dual-motor configurations. The single-motor options offer peak power outputs of either 170 kilowatts or 180 kilowatts. The dual-motor setup includes a 110-kilowatt motor at the front and a more powerful 180-kilowatt motor at the rear, promising brisk acceleration.

BYD wants to compete in the big leagues with the new electric coupe Denza Z

BYD's luxury arm, Denza, has thrown down the gauntlet with the unveiling of its first concept coupé, the Denza Z. Shown at the Shanghai International Auto Show, this sleek, four-seater EV showcases the brand's latest technological advancements and signals its intent to compete in the high-performance sports car market, with apparently the Porsche 911 directly in its sights.

The Denza Z has a low and athletic profile, immediately conveying a sense of energy. Its sharp headlights and prominent front lip contribute to an assertive front-end design. The overall aesthetic is dynamic and refined, with Denza confirming that both hardtop and convertible versions will be available.

As a two-door coupé, the Denza Z has a compact body. The cabin design tapers after the central pillar, creating a powerful stance over the rear wheels. Details like frameless windows, hidden door handles, and large wheels add to its modern appeal. Unlike traditional gasoline-powered sports cars, the Denza Z uses a steer-by-wire system. The company states this system uses advanced artificial intelligence to provide smoother handling for everyday driving while maintaining precise responsiveness for track performance. Adding to the futuristic feel is a foldable steering wheel, which the company suggests will enhance safety by creating more space during collisions.
