The BYD (EV) Thread

Interesting that the names were changed for the EU market:

Yuan = Atto 3
Song Plus = Seal U (DMi for Hybrid version)
Seagull = Dolphin Surf

Seal = Seal
Sealion 7 = Sealion 7
Han = Han
 
Another day another BYD seen (on CT roads), this time a silver Atto 3. Looks super nondescript in silver, actually a tad "dated" relative to the newer BYD models.

Mat thinks it’s pretty kak. Am also not sure what the hype is. Even if it does come in at 350-400k it makes no economic sense at all compared to an ICE equivalent like a Toyota Vitz which costs half.

It'll be interesting to see a total cost of ownership comparison. The up front price might be higher than ice equivalent, but there are savings to be had in annual services and, obviously, fuel.
 
why can't anyone in SA just release an electric bakkie... ffs this country gobbles up bakkies every month like Niknaks and yet none of these manufacturers want to sell an electric one.

Geely's Riddara (Radar) RD6 is already here at roughly the same price as the BYD Shark6. I think the supplier is enviroauto.co.za/riddara
