The build up to the Nation-wide strike in August has begun. COSATU has announced that they will be working towards a national stand still in august where all workers will put tools down for a day.

The strike is this time for the national crisis and so that the Government can come to the party in helping the poor. COSATU is demanding policy changes so that the poor can survive in the increasingly difficult economic climate. COSATU claims that the government has not been doing enough. I agree.

I used to dislike COSATU, but I am starting to appreciate them as the voice of reason. Strikes are necessary if we are going to change anything in this country, and here they come.

Your Views?

Voice of reason is pushing it a bit imo. They realize that something is broken, but their understanding of whats broken and how to fix it is messed up.

If it forces the Gov to acknowledge that their gravy train approach is not working then I'm all for the strikes.

Well said, and atleast it is a (mostly) black movement so the goverment cant blame white people for their negative views again

True! Finally, they doing something! They have been obsessed with succession battles that have little to do with helping COSATU members!

Sad that, only now that many white people are getting progressively poorer, they start to appreciate what COSATU does for the average worker.

I do not mean this as an offense to the OP.

No offense taken.

In the current economic climate, everyone is affected, I will support any organization or person that tries to help.

I'm just concerned that this might not just make things worst rather than help the situation.

Personally I can't see how tools down can make money for that specific day.

We are currently consuming more than what we are producing. I fail to see how a strike is going to help. Forcing government to artificially lower prices will only delay but ultimately worsen the pain.
