The Courier Guy adds fuel surcharge

One of South Africa's largest delivery companies, The Courier Guy, will add a 12% fuel surcharge to all shipments in response to the recent increase in diesel prices.

Galxboy owner Thatiso Dube shared the letter in an X post. MyBroadband asked The Courier Guy to confirm that it will implement the surcharge, but it did not immediately respond to our query.

Not really surprising if this is true, and being vaguely "optimistic" about it, it is a way to pass on the cost to the customer in a transparent way so they can see it, and also should we get lucky enough for fuel to return to sanity, the surcharge can quickly disappear.

I'm digging this. Glad to see Takealot's investment is showing some results.

So sick and tired of every Thomas, Dirk and Henrietta doing the American thing where everyone is outclassing each other with bigger and bigger SUV's and bakkies in the city. Sometimes you need an oil crisis to bring back some sanity.

We're all in the same boat here with fuel increases I don't get why TCG has chosen to be so shady about it! I noticed the surcharge two days ago and looking at a few shipments was able to work out that it was 12%. Nice that they were open with parcelninja about it, what about the rest of us? I initially contacted support to ask how the surcharge was calculated and waited a couple hours for a response stating that they couldn't assist with my query.

Mails from 26 March 2026:

"As fuel is a key part of our delivery operations, a fuel surcharge will be applied to help offset fuel-related cost increases. Any fuel surcharge will be communicated clearly and shown transparently on invoices." - We clearly have a different idea on what clearly communicated means, pretty sure that would include letting us know ahead of time when it will be implemented and how it will be calculated.

"While fuel-related adjustments are necessary across certain delivery services, our Locker and Point pricing will remain unchanged. " - They also backtracked on this with zero communication, or maybe they are just playing with words. I checked and the surcharge applies to lockers.
