Good choice :). Love dat dark lager.

Today's selection:

Busy with the Stone Circle blonde ale right now (white label with the swirly orange thing). Very nice taste that hides the 8.5%alc.

I'll be there now :D

My evening:

Robinsons Old Tom: Best ale in the world apparently, I might agree, utterly fantastic. Bit of sedimentation spoiled it though, and at 8.5% it gives you one hell of a kick
Standeaven Brewery Lager X: eh, somewhere between a lager, an ale and an IPA, bland and boring
Young's Special London Ale: thoroughly enjoyed this, great flavours
Brewdog Five AM Red Ale: very disappointing, no standout flavours and bland, too hoppy for a red ale as well(suffers from the SA craft brewery disease of "add hops, that makes it craft beer")
Brewers and Union Bernstein: nothing spectacular but tasty and very drinkable
Kilkenny: not as good as the draft version but still the nectar of the gods.

What was the age of the 5 AM? The ones I've had before were excellent...

That's the thing with most craft beer - it doesn't age too well.

Expires March next year... Nah nothing to do with that it's just a boring beer, entire flavour is hops. Unfortunately a lot of craft brewery's are guilty of this.

I found that 5AM had a pretty good malt profile the last time I had one

Craft cider is a joke - I haven't tried one "craft" apple that didn't taste like Hunters Dry.

Easy solution, don't drink rotten apples;)

I'll be steering well clear of Monte, craft beer fests have changed from a place of trying a bunch of different beers into a fashion statement and the result is a **** show.

I might go for a look see, there's a few there I haven't tried yet

that Soweto Gold is crap, tried it once, never again

I feel the same about festivals.

That's why I like the Clarens festival - have no desire to go to any of the ones in and around Joburg.
