So I am looking for a new car, drives 50 000 km every year, enjoy a big boot. I was fancying a Duster, but then the Chery and Jolion prices are cheaper than the new Duster. But the Duster , which is not looking so pretty to me, is light on diesel. My current car get 14 km/l and I want to get a car which is even lower on feul. I am even considering a Magnite, which 2 friends get 20 km/l. I test drive a duster 4x4, but then realize it is geared like a bakkie and also gives about 14 km/l. The Duster is leaving the market for a new version coming later, but I plan to keep the car for long. Because of my budget , about R330. Was looking at a Kia sonet, but it does not have cruise control. The Duster will have to be a second hand / demo model.

wow, lots of mileage. I wouldnt get a chery, or even jolion as crazy mileage is still an unknown. The duster's are pretty solid, though you probaly want 2wd. you probably want a non-turbo petrol japanese car. you wont get the best consumption compared to a turbo small capasity or even diesel, but it will last you.

Jolion and Cherry are still new in the market and are yet to prove themselves.
You would be the perfect candidate to prove their reliability, a ownership thread would be a must as you accumulate a lot of kilometers in a year.

Cherry have the 1million 1st owner engine and transmission warranty.
fuel consumption wise, the Jolion and Cherry are thirsty from a lot of reviews which means makes the duster is a winner in 2x4 configuration as it had proven itself.

Friend has the 1st generation 1.6 diesel in 2x4 and it has done 250 000km with no fuss.

Milliom kms warranty, upup likes to keep his cars long, looks like a match made in heaven.

But the Chery is small, the Duster is agricultural and not the best quality out there, although it is spacious.

I disagree. Modern turbo cars are pretty reliable and very frugal if driving civilized. Yes, if you hoon it, it will drink at a rate, but up here at altitude, cant beat a turbo.

That being said, I will never by a 2nd hand turbo car. Wait, in fact, I will never by 2nd hand again.

I agree with pretty much all you said. I just don't want the OP to send me hate mail I a few years when his used turbo car goes boom hahhaa

I am seriously looking at Chery (apart from Haval) but is there a mybb member who is likely to drive same car for 1 million kms? Sounds gimmicky to me but it is interesting that they have quite a confidence in their engine.

Was looking at the 300 Mahindra. But that boot is so small. But the price is good.
Very very tiny, probably will fit 2 medium bags. The only reason wife didn't get XUV 300. We run out of 536 litre boot of ballade for coastal holidays so 275 litre is nothing.

Yeah engine might be fine, how will everything else be?

Most warranties on the market are 150k or 200k kms at most, so you really don't have to drive it for 1 million kms, it's just nice to know that you won't be posting here looking for advise on whether to buy an aftermarket warranty or sell the car because you are afraid something is going to break at 200k kms.

But I think I won't really have a problem driving it for 1 million kms, I have never seen the point of changing cars frequently, it just look unnecessary to me, if it still goes drive it.

Frankly it it mostly marketing speak, Chery ran this at their (re)launch back to SA & this was the headline act.

Not saying it is BS but in the real world it is questionable or at the very least unlikely the 1st OG buyer will actually take his Chery to 1Mill. It makes a good headline piece. Marketing 101.

You know what would be a good idea? Some rich oke on mybb to take the challenge and drive 800K on this one and post YT review. I am sure this hasn't been done before.
