The ANC got about 64% in '09 and this year they're predicted to get about the same yet they have Malema stealing a chunk of their voters (~5%). You'd then think that it should be about 59% for the ANC then? Possible I suppose given COPE's implosion.

Anybody else being spammed with annoying ANC SMSes?
My phone went in for repair on Saturday so I bought a R100 phone to pop my sim into so I at least won't miss any important calls. They activated the SIM in store and as I walked out I received an SMS from the ANC, I was like HTF did they even get this number??? :wtf:

The number's the same, so what makes this more surprising than any other spam?

Got my ANC spam SMS too.

Farkers. I would say I'm now not going to vote for you but I never planned to in the first place.

So what are people predictions for these elections?

I say ANC 63%
DA 21 %

The other parties are a little irrelevant.

I also think it will be at those levels, although I will not be all that surprised if the ANC fell a bit further (another 3-5%) and the DA gains a bit more (2-4%). Also I think the EFF might get a good % for such a small party that is so young.

See they have opinion polls up on Wiki.

I would love it if the ANC dipped below 60% and the DA rose above 25%.

Die VF-leieir sit in Zuma se uitgebreide kabinet, kry 'n groot salaris en val die DA aan. Die VF+ het aan die ANC uitverkoop. Ons kan nie so 'n party vertrou nie.

Weak DA. And we should trust a party with no accountability (DA-Agang merger)?

The real problem is the DA is incapable of denting the ANC much. In past elections they have rather managed to only effectively target the smaller parties' supporters

In my opinion, SA is going in the wrong direction of their chosen 2nd party. Not taking anything from the DA or their substantial achievements but in South Africa's peculiar historical context they will never take power, even as the stronger party in a coalition that doesn't include the ANC

True. They will never take power.

That is OK, just as long as they keep the Western Cape though :)

FSTATE IEC FIRES AREA MANAGER

The Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) in the Free State has fired an area manager during the special voting period, the provincial IEC head said on Tuesday.

"We shook hands with the manager," Chris Mepha told journalists in Bloemfontein.

The manager apparently refused to hand voting material to the presiding officer of the Khotsofalo farm school voting station. No reason was given for the manager's actions.

The IEC said the station had 14 special votes applications.

IEC officials were also investigating a problem at the Kestell Old Age home voting station in the Maluti-a-Phofung area. The facility apparently told IEC staff no proper arrangements had been made for special votes.

"In Moqhaka [Kroonstad] not all [voting centres] opened on time. At a temporary voting station chairs and tables were not available but the voting continued."

Mepha said despite these issues special voting went ahead without major problems.

The province had more than 23,000 special vote applications. IEC officials visited more than 10,000 homes for special votes and more than 4400 special voters visited voting stations.

Mepha said IEC officials would continue taking special votes.

"They must visit all those who have applied."

He urged all those registered to vote on Wednesday.

"Your vote is your voice," he said, adding all South Africans should embrace democracy.

Actually most likely outcome further down the line is ANC support to split between anc, eff and Numsa's worker party (which will launch by 2019 elections). Then the DA can hopefully form a coalition and be the main kingmaker, leaving the anc and eff in the cold.

NO VIOLENCE ON MAY 7: TSENOLI

Co-operative Governance Minister Lechesa Tsenoli urged people to refrain from violence during Wednesday's elections.

"We call on communities to do everything in their power to avoid any violence in pursuing their civic concerns. It is grossly inappropriate to disrupt services that do exist, and elections, for any reason," he said on Tuesday.

Everybody had a responsibility to help the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) conduct a free and fair election.

"We call on all voters to go out in our numbers to vote."

Tsenoli condemned violence that had preceded the election.

On Monday, residents of the Gugulethu informal settlement on the East Rand used burning tyres and rocks to block streets.

"Several vehicles were reported to have been stoned, but there were no injuries reported," Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said at the time.

Forty-six people were arrested for public violence.

In Sterkspruit, in the Eastern Cape, an attempt was made on Monday morning to burn down a school said to be used as a voting station. A guard at the Ekuzoleni Junior Secondary School noticed smoke coming from the school hall in the early hours of the morning. He found burning tyres inside the hall and a broken window.

"School materials, including books, chairs and cabinets, were destroyed," said Colonel Sibongile Soci.

Investigations revealed the school hall was not a polling centre, even for special votes, IEC commissioner Bongani Finca told reporters at the national results operations centre in Pretoria on Monday.

Looking back at the '09 results - if the ANC stays at 65.9% (the loss of Marikana/Nkandla votes offset by CoPe defections/IFP implosion, etc) - the DA could grow up to 8%, to take them to 24.66%. Then EFF, Agang and other new parties would only need to get another 8% of the vote to bring the ANC under 50%...

Will this happen? Don't bet on it...

Anybody else wants to start contributing to a get-sloshed fund to drown the sorrows if this doesn't happen?

I would love it if the ANC dipped below 60% and the DA rose above 25%.
