The Farce Continues.

Well, guys, I’m starting to get just a little the hell in with SARU’s citing and disciplinary process. It is a complete shambles and a farce with absolutely no consistency and seemingly zero governance. Like so many of the other things that the national body does, it brings to mind the image of a swaggering bully throwing its weight around, rather than a professional, multi-million Rand enterprise.

For the second time in a week, a disciplinary hearing has been summarily postponed at the last minute, without any prior warning or justification. Furthermore, no consideration whatsoever has been given to the impact that these hearings have on team selection and preparation for upcoming matches. Last week, it was Guy Cronjé whose utter debacle of a hearing took place a single day before the game. This time around, Rory Kockott’s hearing, for an incident which nobody can find ANY video evidence of, has been postponed until 09h00 this morning. Again, assuming that Kockott is suspended, it will necessitate a team change the day before an important match (given that the players typically have Wednesdays off).

A little birdy tells me that the victim of Kockott’s alleged indiscretion, Bulls lock Wilhelm Steenkamp, has no recollection of the incident whatsoever. Kind of makes one wonder if they’ve been forced to postpone the hearing in the vain hope that a single shred of evidence may, in fact, miraculously prevent itself, since the case as it stands now appears flimsy to the point of absurdity. Maybe there wasn’t actually such an incident after all - or perhaps one of the Bulls coaches happened to mention something at the post match drinks function which the citing commissioner decided to act on? Who knows, but it all smacks of a total lack of transparency and professionalism.

Raise your game, SARU and drop your petty agenda against the Sharks. It’s bad enough that your officials on the day saw fit to issue at least two unwarranted cards. The Kockott witch hunt is nothing more than a stitch up and I hope you end up with egg all over your faces.

This is a agony-aunt piece and really really poor imo.

Look we all get calls that are dodgy its part of the game. I don't remember any of you shark supporters calling for more transparency after JP Nel's citing and ban for 4 weeks. (Even after your own player Stefan Terblanch who was the one JP tackled said there was nothing wrong with the tackle)

Stop complaining you sound like the freaking Aussies who if anything is aimed their way the moan and complain to no end.

Lol, I know thats why I say stop complaining and if you are going to complain then FFS do it when ANY player is unjustly cited.....

But I agree the whole citing system lacks transparency.

Well now the sharks will have to think of a new excuse when they suffer defeat the next time, seeing that Kockott was not cited, they lost their one get out of jail "boohoo everyone is against us, they banned our best scrumhalf" free card.

Chin up, it happens to the bulls all the time, welcome to the big leagues that is how the game works around here, and don't complain about it openly (like with bakkies), you will get cited for that too.

For a team that has Bismarck (when he is not playing for the Boks) on start-up, underhanded tactics are par for the course

Lol, you Bulls make me laugh ...... when JP gets cited and banned, the Bulls thread / fans was in an uproar. I don't recall there being anything said about citings to all teams then. So please, keep your bleating on the down low

You know what, on the bulls side, we get cited so often....and OUR players actually get banned, so its nothing new. But going mental for someone that MIGHT get cited and in the end gets of clean (remember, the welsh player also could not find a single thing wrong with the way bakkies cleaned the ruck where he got hurt (think it was jones), and he actually GOT banned, and was then labeled as a thug by the sharkies), seriously, can't really see where the conspiracy theory fits in

Because thats a different case! He was banned for 4 weeks! Kockott was cleared!

Yes but then posting this, complaining about how Kockott was found not guilty is a little silly. It shows the citing commision atleast kind of works seeing as he was cleared...

When a court finds a defendant not guilty do you cry foul? Noooooo.

@MH Ag well, its one of those things, think its because both are high profile teams (although I think they should start going after WP). I also get hot under the collar, and blame all the officials, then the wife just gives me the raised eyebrow look

But I do agree that the citing rules etc etc need to be looked at.

when a player actually commits the offence, I have no issue ...... when Kockett got banned for that flat hand, it was right ... when JP got 4 weeks for just a high tackle, it wasn't right ... when Bakkies got banned in the Lions game, it wasn't right ... etc etc.


But non issues getting cited is just plain ridiculous ..... and if anyone actually agrees with that, then you are not a rugby fan.
