Our best hope is for everyone to roll on each other until they get to the top, Blatter. I'm sure the DoJ are going to do this. they going to ****ing take this right to the end IMO.
 
Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula has officially released a statement on the FIFA allegations which have implicated the hosting of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The statement as released by the Ministry of the Department of Sport & Recreation reads as follows:

The Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa has been inundated with questions relating to the allegations stemming from the indigment by the Attorney General of the United States of America that the government of South Africa or its officials have paid a bribe of $10 million to secure the rights to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa hereby indicates that all funding by the South African Government was transferred via the National Treasury to the National Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa and that no such amount was paid by the Department of Sport and Recreation and the government of South Africa.

Our financial records and books for the 2010 – 11 Financial years and those before and after the period of the world cup have been audited by the Auditor General of South Africa and no such amount has been found on our books. The funds transferred to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) were also accounted for. At the close of the books of the LOC, government received the close out report including audited financial statements by a reputable international Auditing and accounting firm, Ernst and Young (EY). The financial statements were unqualified and the audit opinion fairly represented the financial position and compliance with the accounting policies of the LOC.

On this basis, the Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa duly accepted the close out report of the LOC and submitted same to our National Treasury as is expected in South African law. In the interest of Transparency, government also finalised its own close out report which was approved by cabinet and duly released to the public in early 2012. We have therefore noted with keen interest the allegations from the Attorney General of the United States and will follow their investigation. We will approach our Department of International Relations and Cooperation to request through the Diplomatic channels existing between the two countries the copy of the indigment to establish the basis on which the allegations are being made as this has a potential of tarnishing the name and people of our country globally and put into question the competence of our nation in organizing mega events.

As this is a matter of national importance, we call upon all who were involved in the process of bidding and execution of the 2010 FIFA World Cup to desist from making statements and to afford the National Government of the Republic of South Africa through the Ministry and Department of Sport and Recreation to handle this matter through the diplomatic channels. We also call upon those wishing to provide any information to provide such through the government of the Republic of South Africa. We will study carefully the copy of the indigment once received from the US government through the Diplomatic channels and we will pronounce further after carefully studying it.

As reported by the Siya crew earlier, the South African Football Association is yet to release an official statement on the implications and allegations of the 2010 World Cup.

This is what I'm hoping as well. They say it's just the start... These chaps aren't spring chickens anymore and they'll be facing 20 years and dying in prison. Deals will be made real fast and the DoJ could care less about the folk reporting to these thugs.
 
At this rate, the future FIFA games are going to look like Splinter Cell :D
 
Hah! I'm so glad this is happening, and long overdue as well. The chickens are coming home to roost.
For so long has Sepp and his circle of mates sat and profited off the sport whilst those who actually make meaningful contributions are left with very little. Aside from the cream of the crop of footballers who benefit from lucrative contracts and sponsorships, most footballers and other meaningful contributors get very little for what they put in. And it is those people who actually bring us the great spectacle of football that the world loves to watch, not these fat cats who sit in luxurious hotel rooms smoking cigars and decide who gets to do what, holding nations and federations hostage for their own benifit.
They managed to get away with blatant corruption for so long whilst those who had the power to do something about it (european federations, countries and club that are big players in the foorball world) sat back timidly too afraid to act. The shameful sponsors who continued their massive deals with FIFA are now suddenly pretending to condemn the very same corruption they knowingly supported only when action starts being taken. They ignored so many calls to drop their sponsorship when the cirruption became apparent but they were too afraid to kill the golden goose. They should all be implicated as well.

Blatter ran FIFA in the same way our government runs our country. Using the work of those who contribute meaningfully to enrich themselves and doing very little themselves, or actually hindering progress. The profits from the sport could have done so much in developing the talents of youth in impoverished countries and thus improving their quality of life, but instead some corrupt $h!t had to make himself a pile of cash. It sickens me to the pit of my stomach and I sincerely hope that everybody who was involved gets punished to the full extent of the law. I have little faith, knowing just how skilled the wealthy are at avoiding justice, but hopefully the media attention will make it hard for them to do so.

Kudos to the American DOJ for having the balls to do something about it when everyone else sat back and let it continue. Let the hammer of justice fall with all it's might!
 
Uefa agreed at its meeting on Thursday to throw its weight behind Jordan's Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, Mr Blatter's only challenger, in Friday's vote.

Mr Platini said that if Mr Blatter won, Uefa could hold an extraordinary meeting in Berlin at the time of the Champions League final.

When asked if this could include withdrawing from Fifa competitions, Mr Platini said: "We will raise all possibilities."

Pressed on the possibility of a World Cup boycott, he said: "There may be proposals. I honestly don't wish that."

I must admit I am quite amused by how much effort certain posters seem to be putting into this thread trying to make it seem like the most important thing about the whole FIFA thing is how Russia reacted to it.

I think you might need sponsors to pull the plug first... Cut off the revenue and you cut off the patronage. No patronage, no reason to keep the status quo.
If I were Visa, Coke or any of the other sponsors, I'd already have my people talking to Platini's people.

It would probably cause a split within EUFA too. Not all of their members would support such a move which is probably why they won't split, the top nations have been unhappy with FIFA for a while now, over the hosting rotation (which has of course since been scrapped) and the perception that they're being denied additional slots at the World Cup.

Without Europe FIFA will fail imo. Sponsors will pull out because they've lost a key base.

However, what would it mean for non European footballers plying their trade in Europe is a bigger question. Will the players have to chose club or country?

Russia is part of EUFA :)
