The FIFA corruption thread

After all the denial by every government and soccer official in this country, these tweets provocative?

It's all because someone had the smart idea of getting America involved in world soccer. They should have stayed at college soccer and women's soccer, and kept to their freaking "FOOTBALL", baseball, basketball and ice hockey when it came to world championships. Hehe.

Wonder if someone hacked their account? Surely he would not be so stupid as to admit that?

Agreed. Doubt it. It's more likely a play on words to indicate guilt and conjure readers. Looking forward to seeing whatever they've written though.

Former FIFA VP Jack Warner cites a report by satirical news site in attempt to defend himselfWarner was among those indicted last week in U.S. investigation into alleged corruption at FIFAHe later reposted the same statement with references to the bogus article removed

(CNN)An embattled former FIFA official has scored a spectacular public relations own-goal by citing an article by satirical news outlet The Onion in an attempt to counter criminal charges against him.

Jack Warner, FIFA's former vice-president and a member of parliament in Trinidad and Tobago, was*among those arrested last weekin a U.S.-led investigation into corruption in world football. He was released on bail Thursday and is facing an extradition request from the U.S. government.

In a video statement posted Sunday to his ownwarnertv.net*website and social media accounts, Warner brandished a copy of a bogus news report by the satirical news website as he launched a broadside against the ongoing U.S. Justice Department investigation into alleged bribe-taking and racketeering at football's governing body.

The faux news report, titled "FIFA Frantically Announces 2015 Summer World Cup in the United States," jokingly suggested the sporting body had created an alternative tournament to appease U.S. officials.

Warner accused the U.S. of "double standards" for agreeing to host the fictional tournament in cooperation with an organization it had accused of corruption.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was speaking during an an interview aired by Swiss broadcaster RTS on Monday when he made the comments.

On Saturday, at a meeting with Putin in St Petersburg, Blatter said that Fifa, facing a major bribery scandal, had passed a resolution offering full support for holding the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“We all know the situation developing around Mr Blatter right now. I don’t want to go into details but I don’t believe a word about him being involved in corruption personally,” he said.

“I think people like Mr Blatter or the heads of big international sporting federations, or the Olympic Games, deserve special recognition. If there is anyone who deserves the Nobel Prize, it’s those people.”

More charges could be laid as #Fifagate probe widens

JOHANNESBURG – The United States and Swiss Justice Departments say more charges could be laid very soon as the investigation widens into the Fifa bribery scandal.

The US Attorney General, along with her Swiss counterpart gave an update on the investigation on Monday.

Fourteen officials were indicted by US Attorney General Loretta Lynch in May, with Lynch confirming that 10 are facing extradition.

Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber says various officials have been questioned.

The world football governing body was first rocked by the scandal in June, with high ranking officials being charged.

Lauber says the US and Swiss authorities are not conducting a joint investigation, but that the two parties are cooperating with each other.

He’s confirmed houses in the Swiss Alps have been searched, 11 terabytes of data seized and bank accounts investigated since the story broke in May.

What's that song with the words , " the pipes are calling " ?:wtf:

"Danny Boy"

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

But when ye come, and all the flow'rs are dying
If I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an ave there for me.

And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be
For you will bend and tell me that you love me
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.
