Easy upgrade to turn old cameras into smart criminal detectors

South African homes and businesses with old and elaborate CCTV camera systems can upgrade their cameras with intelligent event detection capabilities using a relatively simple plug-in device instead of replacing all their hardware.

While security cameras have been around for a long time, the more recent emergence of software that can detect human and other activity has made them far more useful.

I use Frigate NVR hosted locally and it is doing this exact thing without any licensing costs. But I agree that smart detection capabilities are a huge help

Using RTSP streams for offsite analysis is a huge no for me. I still prefer on device detection. Spend a bit more on the camera and get quality analytics.

"While Avlytics can be used by households, the system must be managed by a PSIRA-registered armed response or guarding provider."

That's a bit stupid, so buying a ai nvr is fine, but if I want to use their product I have to be PSIRA registered.

Now I am imagining BMW/Audi/VW/Toyota saying you need a PDP or some sort of special license that needs 1 year course to drive their car, their sales would plummit and everybody would go for another brand.
Is Avlytics trying to be some sort of new police...

Legally you cannot install or maintain any electronic security equipment without being psira registered. This includes buying and installing a dvr or nvr, whether or not it's for yourself or someone else.

Most places ignore the psira requirement though.

Since avlytics seems to be a device connected to your network, I don't understand the logic to be psira registerd. Since it sound like some sort of computer (probably a rasberry pi or something) which connect to your network.
