In the middle of 2023, Ford shocked the automotive world with the Mustang GTD, a wild race-car-for-the-road. Yet the interior was MIA, some technical details remained under wraps, and the stated aim of lapping the Nürburgring in under seven minutes looked like a tall order.

Fast forward 18 months, and Ford has gotten its wildest ever ‘Stang around the infamous German circuit with a few seconds to spare – and reckons there’s more to come. A perfect time, then, to get better acquainted with a near-production ready version.

Though TopGear.com holds a special place in its heart for Pierce Brosnan and his wide-ranging body of work, one specific bit of his work has slipped through the net. That being the weird, off-road Shelby Mustang he drove for a bit in The Thomas Crown Affair.

Turns out, a German tuner wants to pay homage to this weird, off-road Shelby Mustang Mr Brosnan drove for a bit, by transforming it into a modern weird, off-road Shelby Mustang.

This is it. You will notice it is only a render, but the tuner responsible – Loder1899 – assures us if enough people are excited, It Shall Be Built.

Clearly, it’s a new Shelby GT350, and if that’s the base Loder1899 lands upon, you’re looking at the slightly scary end of 820bhp from a very supercharged version of Ford’s indomitable 5.0-litre Coyote V8.
