Ford SA drops four-cylinder Mustang from latest price list
Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s latest price bulletin does not include the four-cylinder Mustang, with the range now comprising only 5,0-litre V8 derivatives.
Before the start of April 2019, the local Mustang line-up featured six derivatives. But that number has been halved to three with the removal of the trio of EcoBoost models from the Blue Oval brand’s official price list. That leaves three eight-cylinder variants, priced from R872 200.
The previous 2,3-litre four-cylinder base model had been priced from R728 500, with its turbocharged heart offering 233 kW and 430 N.m (compared with the 306 kW and 530 N.m delivered by the naturally aspirated V8).
Of course, South Africa is still awaiting the arrival of the facelifted Mustang (revealed as long ago as January 2017), with a small shipment of Bullitt special-edition models also expected to be offered locally. And the rationalisation of the range suggests the latest version of the ‘Stang may well (finally) be just around the corner...

Ford reveals 'High Performance' pack for four-pot Mustang
Ford has taken the wraps off a new “High Performance” package for the entry-level, four-cylinder Mustang (in both coupé and convertible body styles), raising the 2,3-litre EcoBoost engine’s peak output to a “projected” 243 kW.
Billed as a new variant of the turbocharged four-pot built “specifically for the Mustang”, the engine furthermore delivers an improved maximum torque figure of 475 N.m (over a “broader torque curve”), thanks to a five percent larger (63 mm) twin-scroll turbo compressor and a larger radiator.
The Blue Oval brand says the Mustang 2,3L High Performance Package is “designed” to run hit 60 mph (97 km/h) in the “mid-four-second range on premium fuel”, with top speed increasing to 250 km/h.
The upgrade includes an active quad-tip exhaust system with a “signature tuned sound”, as well as Mustang GT brakes, performance tyres, and chassis and aerodynamics hardware from the Mustang GT Performance Package.
An alloy strut tower brace has also been added, along with a 32 mm sway bar up front and a tubular 21 7 mm item at the rear. New “performance calibration tuning”, meanwhile, has been applied to the electronic-controlled power steering, antilock braking, stability control and five driver-selectable drive modes. A 3,55:1 limited-slip rear axle is also included.
The High Performance Package model is visually set apart by its black front splitter, “brake cooling ramps” (the latter from the Mustang GT Performance Package), blacked-out grille, extra badging (inside and out), magnetic grey side-mirror caps, blade-style rear spoiler and grey stripe on the bonnet.

South African tuner builds 945 kW/1 100 N.m Ford Mustang!
The folks over at RGMotorsport in Gauteng have taken the wraps off a tuned Ford Mustang apparently packing a monstrous 945 kW and 1 100 N.m.
Yes, the Randburg-based tuner has strapped a massive supercharger to the Blue Oval brand’s V8 petrol engine (which in stock, naturally aspirated form generates 306 kW and 530 N.m) to dramatically hike its peak outputs.
Crazy numbers, right? Well, RGM says there’s more to come, with the engine still being run in and a plan to add nitrous oxide injection...
So, what else did the tuner do to the engine? Well, RGM added a Boundary Racing oil pump, stroker crankshaft with an ATI damper pulley, Eagle conrods, Cometic head gaskets, PAC valve springs, Ferrea valves and Comp Cams camshafts. ARP fasteners were used throughout and the resleeved block was topped by gas-flowed heads and finished off with custom valve covers.
Perched above it all, of course, is a Whipple positive displacement blower with Stage 3 competition kit, driven from the crankshaft by a heavy-duty belt. The blower itself is rated at 2,9 litres, forcing compressed air through an integrated intercooler. RGM says maximum boost is “currently” 1,25 bar and the static compression ratio 9,8:1.

The soon-to-be-released updated facelifted Ford Mustang range will introduce an array of exterior updated and a reconsidered engine line-up, including the 10-speed automatic transmission option currently servicing the Ford Ranger and Everest family.
Launching in South Africa in the second half of 2019, the new range will be flagshipped by the special-edition Mustang Bullitt derivative offering 353 kW and 570 N.m from its naturally-aspirated V8 engine. Built to commemorate the car famously driven by Steve McQueen in the movie Bullitt, the new range topping Mustang features approprately upgraded styling and bespoke trimmings. A total of 55 units have been allocated to the South African market.

Ford has extended the production of its special edition Mustang Bullitt into 2020, after the initial run of cars sold out almost as soon as they were made available.
Prices now start from £48,210 for the limited-run muscle car, which makes the Bullit just under £6000 more expensive than the regular 5.0-litre Mustang GT on which it is based.
It gains additional equipment including Recaro seats, upholstery finished with green stitching, an 8-ball gearknob and the Bullitt Electronics Package, which adds sat-nav, a premium sound system, blind spot monitor and cross-traffic alert, as well as driver memory seats and mirrors. Each car will have a unique chassis number plaque on the interior.

The Ford Mustang has been updated for 2019 and the changes are significant. From launch, the Ford Mustang will be available in South Africa in 5 flavours. There will be coupe and convertible derivatives, with the choice of either the 2.3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine or the 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 petrol motor. Also confirmed is the Bullitt special edition.
The 2.3-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder produces 213 kW and 440 Nm, while the mighty 5.0-litre V8 engine packs 331 kW and 529 Nm. Power goes to the rear wheels via a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The Mustang Bullitt, on the other hand, makes 338 kW and 529 Nm. The 2.3 Fastback will hit 100 kph in a claimed 5.5 seconds, while the 5.0 GT Fastback does the same sprint in 4.3 seconds. The convertibles do the 0-100 kph dash in a claimed 5.7 seconds and 4.5 seconds respectively.

The updated line-up will comprise five variants, including the limited-edition Bullitt pictured below. As we reported in June 2019, just 55 examples of the latter have been set aside for South Africa.
The range will kick off with the turbocharged 2,3-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, which generates 213 kW (interestingly, a full 20 units down from the 233 kW offered in the pre-facelift model) and will be available exclusively in ten-speed automatic guise. Both fastback (R768 000) and convertible (R831 000) body styles will be offered with this EcoBoost mill.
The 5,0-litre V8, meanwhile, makes 331 kW (up from 306 in the pre-facelift version) and will also be offered exclusively with the new ten-speed auto transmission, and again in fastback (R915 800) and convertible (R978 400) guises. The flagship is the Bullitt (for R995 400), which uses the same naturally aspirated V8, but with 338 kW and a six-speed manual gearbox. It's thus the only manual model in the updated line-up.

No specific reason for the lack of manual transmission in the new lineup was given to us by Ford SA, but we assume that sales of the pre-facelift manual ones were too low, and of course with the new 10-speed auto enabling quicker performance, they want to focus on that.
