The Ford Ranger (T6) Thread

2017 model just fetched by We Buy Cars...

Taking delivery of the Wildtrak tomorrow morning.
Did you take the service plan or maintenance plan extra?
I just got the prices for both on the Raptor.

Service plan.

In the 107 000km I drove the 2017 XLT, warranty and service plan covered all, except for the following out of pocket:
-New release bearing, which comes as a set with a clutch plate (clutch pedal was sticking to the floor under hard throttle+gear change - warranty replaced both the master and slave cylinders first, but that did not resolve the issue.
-Set of front brake pads at last years service when the vehicle was just under 90 000km.
-5th and 6th annual service

So based on that history, cannot justify the maintenance plan. Service plan is a no brainer for a "fixed cost of ownership"

We then extend the 4yr warranty just before it turns 4 and drive for another 2 years. Trade out after "she" turns 6

You may want to weigh up the maintenance plan against the price of those Fox Shocks though....

For fscking sure. I made peace with the price including the maintenance plan.

Wait you sold the M2? Huh
To who?
Yep. I know I'm gonna miss that car. Sold it to the highest bidder. Same guys I bought it from. I see they are advertising it for the same price I paid in Nov 2021.

Australian bound Ford Rangers to lose anti-theft features

Feeling the effects of the global semiconductor shortage, Ford has announced that Australia-bound Ranger models may lose their anti-theft sensors.

Many automotive manufacturers are still reeling from the effects of the long-standing semiconductor shortage that was brought on as a result of the hard lockdowns experienced around the world. “Global supply chain constraints, including shipping logistics combined with high demand around the world for our Next-Gen vehicles, have limited our delivery capacity of these exciting new models” — a statement found on SA’s Ford website.

The Drive Australia highlighted that a recent dealer bulletin released by Ford forecasts some troubling changes made to Ranger models earmarked for the Aussie market. Ford stated that models produced from March this year, earmarked for the Australian market, would lose their two hi-tech anti-theft motion sensors and even an omission of the exterior heated mirror caps.

The absence of an interior anti-theft sensor means that the Ranger is unable to detect if there are occupants in the vehicle while the Ranger is locked. Australian-bound Rangers will also see the removal of Ford’s Vehicle inclination sensors, which allow would-be thieves and criminals to raise the Ranger without any deterrence or sounding the alarm.

So a minor irritation in the Wildtrak. You can't permanently disable the "Lane Keeping" system - you can only turn it off via the steering wheel button, but it comes back on the next start up. I have set the alert to the lowest setting.

How would I describe it? Well, you are travelling along a smooth road and all of a sudden, the wheel starts vibrating like your wheels just chucked all of their balancing weights off. You realise you are close to a road line. It's irritating and I turn it off via the button as soon as the instrument cluster shows me that it is tracking the lines.

Second, you can turn off the reverse assist, but it seems to come back on again. How does this work? If you reverse up to something close (intentionally and fully in control) and the vehicle senses you don't have your foot on the brake, it slams the brakes on so violently you need neck work done. FFS!

PRO: The electric rollershutter on the tub is awesome. And with factory fit, the key fob has a dedicated button. Walk up to the vehicle with groceries and double click the button and she opens ready for you to drop inside. Double click again and your goods are secured before you jump into the drivers seat.

PRO: the side assistance sensors are great. When reversing out of a parking, it can pick up an approaching car from either side at least 5 car lengths away and alerts you on the screen from which side that car is approaching. Very handy.

There is A LOT of tech in the thing.
