New Ford Ranger Wildtrak X Confirmed for SA!

Ford’s new Ranger Wildtrak X boasts a wider track, special Bilstein dampers, bespoke exterior styling and more. And now it’s been confirmed for South Africa…

Meet the new Ford Ranger Wildtrak X. Yes, Ford has squeezed a fresh variant into the gap between the Wildtrak and the full-fat Raptor, handing the newcomer a wider track, special Bilstein dampers and a couple of extra off-road goodies.

Now, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has confirmed the Wildtrak X will launch locally in the 3rd quarter of 2023, showing the new model on its stand at NAMPO 2023. Pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s market launch.

Of course, the newcomer will be produced at Ford’s Silverton facility here in South Africa. For the record, the old Wildtrak X didn’t ever make it to local roads.

“The Ranger Wildtrak range has been immensely popular in South Africa for more than a decade due to its trend-setting style, peerless status, innovative suite of driver assistance technologies and exceptional performance,” said Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa.

“NAMPO and Ford South Africa have a long and proud history and we’re thrilled to be revealing the Wildtrak X at this year’s event to whet the appetite of those customers who push the boundaries of an active, outdoor lifestyle.”

Raptor Lite locked and loaded: Ford Ranger Wildtrak X confirmed for South Africa

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak X was revealed abroad back in March, and now we have confirmation that the upgraded bakkie is coming to South Africa.

Sporting numerous dynamic upgrades that enhance its off-roading ability, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak X aims to bridge the gap between the regular Wildtrak and the Raptor.

You’ll get to see it in the flesh if you happen to be at this year’s Nampo Harvest Day event in the Free State from 16 to 19 May, where the new model is making its first local appearance.

But if you’re planning to buy one you’ll need to wait until the third quarter of 2023 for it to go on sale, with pricing set to be released closer to the time.

Created more for off-roading than outright performance, Ford isn’t offering its 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine in the Wildtrak X. Instead power comes from the familiar 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel unit that offers 154kW and 500Nm, paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2023 South African Car of the Year is… technically not a car

The Ford Ranger has emerged as overall winner of the 2023 South African Car of the Year competition, sponsored by Old Mutual Insure.

This is the first time that a bakkie has won the competition, and while the idea might seem strange to some, it fits the ethos of the competition down to a tee.

Car of the Year is all about excellence and innovation, and celebrating vehicles that push the boundaries in their segments, and in many ways the Ranger has done that within the one-tonne segment. Watch the live reveal below:
