Ford Ranger Platinum (2024) Price & Specs

The flagship Ford Ranger Platinum will be arriving in South African showrooms shortly. Here’s pricing and specification for the range-topping double-cab bakkie.

The Ford Ranger Platinum is being touted by the Blue oval as the most sophisticated and luxurious Ranger ever. As a reminder, the Ranger was the most popular double-cab bakkie sold in South Africa in 2023.

Visually, the Ford Ranger Platinum has a unique grille with mesh and silk chrome finish, and a bold Platinum badge on the bonnet and lower sections of the doors. There are 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-season rubber and there are colour-coded bumpers, mirror caps and door handles for additional appeal.

The vehicle features a fixed sports hoop and side rails as standard, and the tailgate gains additional damping which makes it easier to use. The cargo management system has been fitted, making securing goods simple. If you want the powered roller shutter, that will be an added-cost option.

How much does the Ford Ranger Platinum cost in South Africa?

There’ll be five colour options for the Platinum model; Iconic Silver, Frozen White, Carbonized Grey, Lucid Red and Agate Black, and the vehicle will be arriving in local Ford dealerships at the end of the first quarter of 2024.

The price includes a 4-year/120 000 km warranty, 4-year/unlimited distance roadside assistance and 5-year/unlimited distance corrosion warranty. The recommended service interval is 15 000km or annually, whichever occurs first. Customers can purchase a service or maintenance plans up to 8 years or 135 000km. The warranty can be extended up to 7 years or 200 000km, while the roadside assistance can be extended for an additional one or two years.

All that glitters is.. Platinum! Indicative pricing for new Ford Ranger Platinum and Tremor

As South Africa’s most popular double cab range, the Ford Ranger is set to entice even more potential customers in 2024 with two new upmarket variants.

The chrome-laden Platinum is the fanciest Ranger ever in terms of specification, while the Tremor is a more rugged alternative that favours go-anywhere ability over creature comforts.

Both are launching in South Africa around March, and Ford has announced indicative pricing of R977,500 for the Ranger Tremor and R1,119,000 for the luxurious Platinum.

Thus the Tremor will cost around R36,000 less than the Wildtrak X which it shares much of its 4x4 hardware with, which is not as big a saving as many had hoped for, while the Platinum comes just R65,000 shy of the Raptor.

The 2024 Ford Ranger Single Cab Is A Glorious Return To Form

Ford's latest midsize truck will be sold as a glorious single cab model in Europe and other countries overseas.

The 2024 Ford Ranger is being released in the UK and other markets abroad as a single cab. While the more pressing news around the latest Ford Ranger is likely the release of the PHEV model, the single cab model looks like a glorious return to the pickup trucks of yore. Hello, old friend. Where have you been?

It would be more appropriate to ask, “where are you, still?” because the Ranger Single Cab will not be released in the U.S., where Ford’s famous midsizer will be available exclusively as a double cab (or SuperCrew) upon release. An extended cab Ranger will follow soon thereafter in the U.S., which is a fine consolation prize, I guess. And also a boon for fleet managers, for whom the extended cab Ford Ranger has been a solid workhorse for the last couple of decades.

But look at all the bed space of the Ranger Single Cab and that no frills design.

The double cab Ford Ranger that’ll be sold in the U.S. will have a bed length of five feet, while the extended cab gets a six-foot bed. The Ranger Single Cab, however, has a bed that’s over seven feet long. Ford Pro says the length is 2332 millimeters, which is about 7.65 feet. That’s not quite the traditional long bed (8-foot) but it’s a welcome change from the shortened beds that double cabs have yielded in modern truck designs.

As if that bed (fit for long man himself) wasn’t enough, the Ford Ranger Single Cab will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel inline four engine making 168 horsepower and 299 lb-ft of torque. The turbodiesel is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and 4X4 is optional on the midsizer. The truck will tow just over 7,700 pounds, and its max payload is slightly above 2,600 pounds. The Ford Ranger’s cousin, the Volkswagen Amarok, will have similar specs.

Ford Ranger Tremor (2024) Price & Specs

Ford has released fresh details on its new Ranger Tremor ahead of a local launch in 2024, billing this latest derivative as a “more affordable” alternative to the Wildtrak X. Here’s how much you can expect to pay.

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa recently confirmed it would further expand its burgeoning bakkie range with the launch of the new Ranger Tremor in 2024. Now the Blue Oval brand has released initial details on this off-road-ready double-cab derivative, which it bills as a “more affordable” alternative to the Wildtrak X.

That said, the new likewise Silverton-built Ranger Tremor scores all the “enhanced” off-road capabilities of the Wildtrak X, including a full-time 4-wheel-drive system, the so-called “Trail Turn Assist” feature (ostensibly allowing the bakkie to deal with tighter off-road turns) and the self-explanatory Pro Trailer Backup Assist with Trailer Reverse Guidance (which has since been rolled out to the Wildtrak X and Raptor, and will be standard on the upcoming Platinum, too).

The list of standard kit also includes a steel bash plate, steel underbody protection (for the engine, transfer case and fuel tank), 2 front-mounted tow hooks, cast-aluminium side steps and a tubular sports bar. The suspension system features Bilstein position-sensitive dampers along with a 24 mm increase in ground clearance and a 30 mm wider track.

The price includes four-year/120 000 km warranty, four-year/unlimited distance roadside assistance and five-year/unlimited distance corrosion warranty. The recommended service interval is 15 000km or annually, whichever occurs first.

As a reminder, a service/maintenance plan has been unbundled, but Ford has plans up to 8 years/135 000.

Uh oh, we badly want the new Ford Ranger MS-RT

Don’t want an off-road spec Ranger Raptor? The Ranger MS-RT is apparently ‘the ultimate street truck’

Ford has been collaborating with the bodykit fanatics at M-Sport’s road-going arm MS-RT again, and we think the new Ranger MS-RT might be the best thing they’ve come up with yet. You’ll be able to buy this modified pickup from Ford Pro dealers all across Europe, with deliveries starting later this year. Sign us up.

The look is inspired by the racing Rangers that compete on circuits in Asia, and we’re absolutely loving that bluff front end with its new bodywork, honeycomb grille and integrated splitter. It’s a full 82mm wider than the standard Ranger with the track width increased and the arches flared out. Round the back you get a proper diffuser and even a little ducktail spoiler. Excellent.

There’s special, firmer suspension too which drops the ride height by 40mm, and the diamond cut wheels are 21in and wrapped in low profile tyres.

“If Ranger Raptor is the ultimate off-road truck, then the Ranger MS-RT is the ultimate street truck,” says Hans Schep, general manager of Ford Pro Europe. “It’s a departure from what we usually see in this segment in Europe, but with more car-like driving dynamics and the towing and carrying capacity unchanged, we believe it will offer a compelling new option for pickup customers.”

I assume you posted that for the tweet content and not the article as double cabs have always not qualified for commercial vehicle tax breaks in SA.
I should have been clear, this is for UK.

It’s a big deal, we will see how the (UK) market adapts after the enforcement date.
