Ford SA announces new limited-edition Ranger bakkie

Ford South Africa has announced the introduction of a brand-new limited-edition Ranger XLT, replete with model-specific ‘Chill Grey’ exterior paintwork.

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has introduced a new limited-edition model to its Ranger bakkie portfolio. Based on the XLT-spec derivative, only 250 examples will be available in our market.

Equipped with the firm’s Upgrade Pack 6, which is priced at R58 600, the special edition gains black wing mirror housings and door handles, and a sports bar. The limited-run model is fitted with a set of 17-inch ‘sport’ alloy wheels, wrapped in all-terrain tyres. Underbody protection is also included with the package. The ‘Chill Grey’ paintwork seen here is exclusive to this model.

“The introduction of the exclusive ‘Chill Grey’ colour reflects Ford’s continued investment in local manufacturing excellence,” said the firm. As a reminder, in 2023, Ford SA invested in a new skid cleaning facility for its paint shop, which are supported by a range of technology and system upgrades across its manufacturing facility.

Stepping inside, the seats, gear lever and multifunction steering wheel are trimmed in leather. A wireless smartphone charging tray is also included. The limited-edition Ranger also features accessory switches to allow for the integration of additional equipment. A suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) – which includes lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, collision mitigation, and post impact braking – are also present.

Updated Ford Ranger: price and specs

Ford South Africa has officially announced pricing for the updated Ranger bakkie lineup. See full pricing below…

In November 2025, Ford South Africa announced “major changes” for its Ranger bakkie lineup in 2026. Now, the Blue Oval brand’s local arm has announced pricing for the revised Ranger portfolio, which comprises 23 models across three body styles single-cab, Super Cab and double-cab.

The revised powertrain lineup includes Ford’s 222 kW/452 N.m 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder turbopetrol engine for the first time. In addition, the 2.0-litre single-turbo (SiT) four-cylinder diesel has received a new timing chain and is now available with a 10-speed automatic transmission. With the discontinuation of the 2.0-litre bi-turbo (BiT) diesel engine, more derivatives have gained the firm’s 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel unit.

Positioned between the XLT and Wildtrak, a new Ranger Sport variant, available in Super Cab and double-cab body styles, has joined the lineup. The Ranger Sport can be had with the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, paired with a 4×2 drivetrain, or 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel with 4×4.

Revised Ford Ranger bakkie: Pricing, updated line-up and powerful V6 options revealed

Ford South Africa has released more details including pricing, derivatives and drivetrains for the updated Ranger series.

Built locally at the Ford plant in Silverton, Pretoria, South Africa’s top selling double cab bakkie and the rest of the range gets a comprehensive line-up revision that spans 23 derivatives across single cab, super cab and double cab body styles.

Revised engine line-up and drivetrain updates

The biggest change is the introduction of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, producing 222kW and 452Nm, which Ford says is aimed at buyers who prioritise on-road performance and refinement.

With the 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine now discontinued, Ford has broadened the availability of its 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine. Producing 184kW and 600Nm, it now features in more derivatives, particularly those geared towards towing and off-road use.

The familiar 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel continues as the backbone of the range, delivering the same125kW and 405Nm. It has been tweaked with a revised timing chain aimed at improving long-term durability and reducing maintenance complexity.

The six-speed automatic gearbox has also been shelved in favour of Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission across most of the range while the six-speed manual transmission is available in XL trim depending on body style.

Warranty and pricing

The Ranger is sold with a four-year/120,000km warranty, a six-year/90,000km service plan, four-year/unlimited kilometre roadside assistance and a five-year/unlimited kilometre corrosion warranty.

Buyers can extend service and maintenance plans up to eight years or 165,000km, while warranty extensions are available up to seven years or 200,000km.
