I'm still astounded that they don't just post me an invoice each month.

farkem, I want my day in court - let the judge rule on this extortion if one chooses not to have an e-tag

That can't possibly be legal.

I know the NCA limits the maximum interest rate to something like 35%, but of course they are excluded from that. How convenient... That's why I'll wait for a judge to rule on the legality before paying a cent.

It's legal and gazetted. It's called administrative charges due to extra incurred costs for non-registered users.

Just because it was gazetted doesn't make it legal. It means that it has passed through parliament and we've all seen how parliament looks and acts these days.

Remember this kiddies, the minute you pay then you may as well get tagged because you've capitulated and are supporting SCAMRAL and they've won

Just watched the SABC news. Apparently, according to Vusi Mona, not paying for your "etoll obligations is a criminal offence".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but etolls are being collected under the AARTO- and National Road Traffic acts, not the Criminal Procedure Act.

If etolls are being processed under the Criminal Procedure Act, you need to be arrested and charged, and hauled in front of a criminal court.

Seems like SATANRAL is getting desperate. Scare tactics much?

I think that's true, but is it practical making a substantial number of people "criminals"

Probably not, but the theory is that the South African justice system will collapse under the load that etolls will bring to the courts, especially if there is public disobedience against the etoll system.

No, the SANRAL Act criminalised the non-payment of eTolls. So the prosecution will be done via the Criminal Procedure Act.

obviously the only reason they did that, I would think, is that they knew they were screwing us over and expect a backlash, which I and many others, are quite prepared to serve them - if there are enough of us that want our day in court, somebody has to start wondering why....

Agreed. I'm quite willing to risk it and to contribute to the downfall of this ridiculous money-making life-sucking scam.
