Indeed, then scrap the gantries and prosecute everyone who rushed this failed project through and who gained financially when they would not have gained had they chosen the fuel levy from the start.

Don't scrap the gantries. They're perfect for average speed enforcement.

SANRAL BLUE LIGHTS NOT ILLEGAL

It is not illegal for Sanral traffic control vehicles, which are assisting on the Gauteng highways, to have blue lights, the road agency said on Tuesday.

"These vehicles need to have blue lights," SA National Roads Agency Limited spokesman Vusi Mona said in a statement.

"If they don't, they operate illegally."

He said the agency had obtained legal advice through every step of the implementation of the e-tolling system in the province.

Those who wanted to challenge Sanral on the legality of the blue lights were welcome to, Mona said.

"It is not their opinion that matters but what the law says and we are confident we have done everything by the book.

"What is more important here is the effort to do proper enforcement on our roads, thereby addressing issues such as non-roadworthy vehicles, vehicles without number plates or false number plates, and other road traffic offences," Mona said.

He said people who were complaining about Sanral's vehicles were trying to undermine attempts by the agency to assist law enforcers on Gauteng's highways.

A double negative. That gives me the impression that the law is grey on the matter, and they interpreted it to be okay because the law does not explicitly prohibit it.

They operate illegally anyway, blue lights don't legitimise them.
Vusi's logic also makes the blue light hijack gangs legal

have any of you guys seen our BAT or CAT protest groups on the over passes with banners - HOOOOOOT!!!

Court to hear Sanral secrecy bid

The Western Cape High Court will on Monday hear a Sanral application for information about the proposed N1/N2 Winelands Toll Highway Project to be kept secret, the City of Cape Town said.

And when the Cape is e-tolled will they also claim there was "public consultation"? Shows just how much SANRAL really cares about public opinion. Not.

So now I have received a bill for a vehicle that has never been through a toll gate, for a date when I was overseas, and the car was locked away.

Supposedly a truck, I don't believe that the number was even the same, but have not seen the photo yet.

This system seems to have shortcomings (to be polite).

It needs to be scrapped.

Send them an email saying it's not right, and ignore all future bills.

So my GF has seen the photo, the plate starts with a X (mine does not), and the rest is unreadable

Can I lay fraud charges against SANRAL, this is definitely not a simple mistake ?

I would honestly just ignore it - they can't prove you received the account and if they take further steps, they will be the embarrassed party - don't clean their database for them or do their admin

It's not a matter of cleaning the database

They clearly couldn't read the number and then deliberately selected a random vehicle to charge.

In my book this is fraud.

well if that happened to me, I would let the judge decide when sanral takes me to court - laying fraud charges will be more effort for you than what sanral will be punished - I'm sure they will just say "sorry, our mistake" and move on

Nah, I would just send them an courtesy email saying it's not your car and the number plate is wrong. And then ignore all further communication.
