Ramaphosa: Panel found the implementation of the Gauteng toll project has actually hugely benefited the economy as well as the people of Gauteng to have a better road system which reduced travel time.

Hasn't the benefits already been negated by the annual increase in traffic?

I doubt this is going to be enough to bring about any change in sentiment.

I agree.

They are CURRENTLY forcing people to pay outstanding traffic fines before issuing the license disc. How legal it is I don't know.

They are TRYING to force it... you can call them on it, and they HAVE to renew your license.

Hoho. Come my renewal time if this actually is in place then I'm not renewing that disc

They make you pay. Then after you paid said they can't give you the disc unless you paid your outstanding fines. They then send you to the fines office. Once paid they give you a receipt which you need to give to the cashier and then only do they print your disc. They are doing the same at the Post offices. In Pretoria at least.

They are still refusing to admit that they made a mistake (too proud, or too corrupt) and accept the only workable solution - the fuel levy.

JOHANNESBURG - Eyewitness News (EWN) has learnt that an ongoing legal battle between the company which runs the traffic database, the Electronic National Administration Traffic Information System (eNatis), the Department of Transport and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is threatening to collapse the system.

eNatis processes transactions such as vehicle licencing and driver’s licences and stores the data.

The company, Tasima, is in the process of transferring the system to the department but disagreements of how this should be done have led to allegations of unlawful conduct and referrals to the High Court.

EWN understands that Tasima employees resigned en masse on Friday to take up employment at the RTMC, but Tasima chief executive, Denesh Naran, said an internal email was sent to staff on Friday stating that the immediate resignations were unlawful.

Naran accuses the cooperation of interfering with the company’s business operations by trying to take over the system.

A Tasima employee who did not want to be identified said if all the resigned staff did not report for duty on Monday, eNatis could collapse and will have dire consequences for licensing departments across the country.

In several emails to staff over the past month, Naran said any attempt by the department or the RTMC to take control of their premises or evict Tasima would be unlawful and in contempt of court.

The issue of the transfer of eNatis is still before the courts and Tasima is still in possession of and still continues to operate the system.

ENATIS on the verge of collapse... And they want to use it for e-tolls.

I know someone forced to do this in Johannesburg last week.

Not legal. Period.

Report these post offices to the JPSA.

What is the AARTO reference on the JPSA website though? From my understanding Pretoria and Jo'burg are issuing AARTO notices

3.When a warrant of arrest has been issued against the licensee; or
4.When an AARTO Enforcement Order has been issued against the licensee

14:47 Gauteng Premier David Makhura: This matter has been a political football. We deal with issues raised by people.

14:55 Ramaphosa: It was not a political football but a matter that was of great concern to our people and today it addresses the concerns raised by our people.

I guess they didn't have any time to discuss this before hand...

Ramaphosa: Linking the toll fees to the vehicle licence is to bring about ease of payment and ease of administration for one stop to effect payment.

Erm, no. It provides zero benefit for the road users to have the two systems link. The only reason for linking them is to extort money out of road users.
