So how do you interpret his comment that spaniards should pay back their debt instead of so much siesta? Is there some secret interpretation there? Taken at face value he is saying they sleep too much (too much siesta in his words) and don't work hard enough (concentrate on paying their debts in his words)

I was using racism in it's broader definition as in:Your faulty assumption is that it was a racial stereotype.
It has nothing to do with race.
But his flippant diagnosis of the underlying reasons for the European debt crisis (particularly in those Mediterranean countries) is actually fairly accurate.
