The Gordon Igesund Axing...

oohhhh k!....So Gordon got the sack. I think i heard something like 23 coaches in 20 years or so?....sheessh!...

You'd think that therew would atleast be some common sense in our sports hey. So i ask....why was he sacked? Have they forgotten that he was brought in as a "Cleaner"? The mess the previous coach left was now Gordon's to sort out. Safa looked right past that...not suprisingly.

Have we not learnt from the Brazilians? Italians?....they believe only in their own fellow man to do the job and their candidates get approx plus 3 years contracts. Why? coz Rome was not built in one day. So now Van Gaal will dismantle the team and start over. Then we dont do well in the Afcon and he gets the boot.! Too much politics in our sports nowadays.

Government has no patience so Sports officials have no patience. We need to come to a point where we decide to appoint a coach for the next 10 years and sacrifice a string of bad results for atleast 7 of those years in order to get to where we need to be by the time the 9th year comes around. Nothing comes easy but i bet we will be the best team in Africa again and would take on any big gun.

they will bring in a foreign coach, who will be payed bucket loads, then he will resign, and take half the money with him for not working his full contract, we hire local coach, fire him cause bafana dont win... and the cycle continues...
 
GI didn't do very well. He was particularly bad at man management. His comments about the captaincy cost us Stevie P, who was our best player. He allowed player agents in the team camp, and was accused of picking based on their advice. His actions at the 2014 CHAN are apparently what lead to the current player revolt.

I don't hold it against him that he didn't find and blood new players. SAFA failed, as the U23 team has not played since 2011, we don't have a technical director, and we don't actively scout for players outside of SA.

SAFA failed by not using all FIFA dates available to them, which is disgusting.

SAFA needs to get youths teams constantly playing, and get youth football going. This will help with mass participation. I still maintain that for high performance programs, the country's richest schools are best placed. If they would pump money into football, it would be a big help.

Also, don't forget that GI wasn't fired. He signed a 2 year contract, and it has come to an end.

Spot on, I would even go as far to say SAFA does not active breed the future generations, focusing on the current crop of failures. Throwing money at a incompetent team not gonna help them improve if the players are incompetent.

Look at our national rugby team, how is it that we are able to bring up players that constantly perform at the international stage and get head hunted to Europe whilst our football nation cannot boast even 1 decent enough player to make it to the EPL?

Any coach they bring into the fold will simply take the money and run after the contract is up - they know the job is merely a setup to fail position

went in my mind when I read the title of the thread. SPOT ON GENTS!!!

I just want to add that Gordon was also too concerned with not losing instead of building a strong team that will compete and win. As much as our junior teams aren't getting game time there are youngsters playing in Europe (Holland specifically) he should have used instead of his "tried and trusted" mediocre players. We are talking about 18 year olds playing abroad.

Unfortunately, as long as we are stuck with the current management at SAFA we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. I personally don't think a foreign coach is the solution but a brave, local coach will.

Stevie P and KG are both EPL regulars. Rugby has the advantge of a select few schools breeding the top players. I think that fewer than 50 schools have ever had more than 2 Sprinboks.

Since 2010, I think that only our U23 team qualified for a CAF event. If junior teams can't comepte, how are the seniors expected to?

from what ive heard the manager being paid to play a certain agents players has preceded ingesund. safa does fokkol then banks fat bonuses every year. fsuckn disgusting. too many professional administrators.

Exactly so what do you think is the Job of a Coach when he doesn't have the backing nor the structure to support his/her appointment? Spend 1.8 million a month for a coach to not make it into the last 16 of WC2010... that's exactly the mentality of any SA coach. The failure is SAFA not the coaches
 
All that you okes have mentioned was my thinking exactly...i understand Gordon might not have been the best coach but that takes me back to my point of investing in a long term coach, even if it was Gordon, with a longer term he would have had enough time to right wrongs and build a strong team. We expect too much too soon. Would we not rather spend less on Gordon than R1.8m on Van Gaal to do the same thing? Van Gaal wil not be doing better than Gordon, atleast not anytime soon which by then im sure SAFA, the media and fans would have critiscised him enough to have him axed.

GI has never been a good long term coach. He is known for prefering older players, and has club hopped for years.

He is a good quick fix at club level, and he couldn't pull it off at Bafana.

As I said before, his biggest failure was his man management.

Queroz is the front runner. What is ironic is that when he left in 2002, he said that SA's greatest weakness is in not having a national U19 league. 12 years later, we still don't have one.

Whether that is SAFA or the PSL's fault is debatable, but it's shocking either way.
