As per there article about how Adsl from Telkom is not to be abused blah blah
here are a few Prices of services from Uk companys i have had dealings with/.
I think youll find the issue of Bandwidth not being the real problem, more the price you have to pay for 3 gig capped service lol

Ok here goes

http://www.bt.com
Have a look at there prices and services.
take this for example

http://www.bt.com/broadband/bb_info...ction=prod_page_2000_H&presalesProduct=2000_H

Twent Five pounds per month 15 gig cap 2 meg line
that equates to R290 rands including ISP the works. Plus a free Modem.

ISP number two

http://www.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyonder/index.jsp
These guys do cable HI speed connections. this was the best connection i had in the UK.

http://www.telewest.co.uk/websales/service.do?id=2
Have a look at the prices and structures
See what they offer, Telkoms cheapest offering which after all bills included works out to around R600.00 give or take (correct me if im wrong)
Is still more expensive than there 4 meg line with the works

ISP number three

http://www.virgin.net/internetaccess/broadband/index.html?buspart=158
Again massivly cheaper than our options availabe here.
I have used BT / Virgin / Blueyonder in my 8 years in the UK i have never had any problems with any of the services.
move back to Sunny South Africa and hmm i order Telkom adsl (the worlds biggest joke until i installed I burst lol)

In two months my bill at telkom was in excess of R3300.00 and the line was down for three of those weeks.
In an entire year with Virgin.net I DID NOT PAY R3300.00 for my services no cap.

have a look at these

And now of course the cherry on the top
Pipex
http://www.solo.pipex.net/?SOURCE=goog&KEYWORD=virgin broadband\

ha ha no bandwidth limit nothing. for 15 pounds a month.
Put that now into perspective i was earning well in excess of 15 pounds an hour. Here in wonderfull Africa (which i do love by the way)
The persentage of my line is far in excess of less than one hours work.
I wish a telkom representitive could now answer to me why these prices are this much more than the UK which is one of the more expensive places to live in the world.

I agree very much with your motives wls, but we should rather compare to other african countries? Mainly so that telkom cant defend themselves with the 'why are we being compared to 1st world countries' excuse.
I KNOW Egypt is cheaper, the same goes for Mauritious.

UK has 5 million ADSL users - we have 60 000 - hardly comparable.
On the same note - we could have at least 7 million users (12 million vehicle owners in this country) - but it's too expensive. Sigh. I wish I had access to the teklom internal facts.

They should be compared to 1st world countries. Why must the poor countries pay more for internet connectivity? It just doesn't make sense.

and seeing that we are the country with the most technology/recorces and the most developed in africa, i dont see why we should be compared to the likes of zimbabwe and ethopia... we are striving to be a first world country, why compare ourselves and our internet connectivity to countries who are decades behind us being run by dicataors, just because they are on the same continent as us??? telskum is yet again making excuses about why they should be allowed to commit blind robbery on this beautiful country of ours

Telkom apparently compares itself and it's prices to other 1st world countries didn't they?
