quite sure this is not unique, though not sure how exactly to get to that point where you are just fit and looking good :D

now, where this comes from i guess is just being too long away from the gym and not consistently going there and doing the steps.

the steps i'm not too quite sure of any more as i just have too many ideas as to getting the build i want. the build, well i don't want to be able to pull 300kg's and run away from a heard of cheetas, just the "normal" with nice muscle definition.

the thing is that i don't just want to do curcuit or push them weights. i have lately been thinking of going the russian kettlebell route or at least getting into dead lifting.

now that at least is my interest, the dead lifters. once again not looking to be able to do zomg max KGs just dead lift for decent all round workout if it's at all possible. have looking at pavel's naked warrior and power to the people, just not too sure.

so in short, getting back into gym (looked for the thread starting again, not sure where what one when) and building it up to a decent muscle definition without the balloon effect.

should i just **** it and go with body for life again ? i really would like to skip the personal trainer part though, but i guess i do need a program to get what i want and that's part of the problem. getting to gym and now wtf do i do...

thanks.

Where abouts are you based?
Have you considered doing a martial art / boxing etc etc

Never done the dead lifts etc, and feel I'm fairly fit. Run three times a week, 'weights' on off days (just some curls etc with two 10kg dumbbells). Hiking/climbing on weekends. Basically just get out there. I feel gyms are a bit of a waste.

Was doing yoga, but now that the wife's started working, she gets home too late to go.

Its not a waste really, but i tend to get bored and demotivated.
I mean, i can run on a squash court for an hour...put me on a treadmill and I get bored in 5 minutes and give up. For me, doing an activity motivates me just that little bit more

Nocturnity/fastesthamster/markface, thanks i'll have a look

i used todo mma before the fall from grace :D, maybe i should look something up like that again.

i'm a yoga teacher, and part of our training is based on the study of anatomy and physiology. i think its important to understand that your body was not designed to artificially be made bigger. so things like supplements, intense muscle work outs etc have long term side effects. stop doing them for a month and you'll turn into a nice rubber ball of fat - and then the two years of sweat you've put in to get there is lost and wasted.

you want to go with something more natural, something your body is genetically programmed to do. yoga is a very good option, because it has some very positive effects on your mental and emotional state, while at the same time having a very profound impact on the body over a long period of time.

a good yoga teacher can push you into core muscle strengthening, that creates the strength for the body to do more exercise, and in the long term gives you protection from rapid degeneration. at the same time, you can do postures like the sun salutation that flex and move every joint in the body through a combination of 12 postures that you sequence together. then, doing these repetitively can give you a cardio workout, while holding each posture for some time can improve strength and tone.

traditional yoga schools (based on the original texts) will give you more than enough variety in postures so that you won't be bored, while at the same time giving you enormous mental and emotional benefits. the best thing about yoga is that you can keep doing it even when you're old. and you can do half an hour of it and get a benefit, or you can have a marathon 3 hour session if that's what you feel like.

pm me if you want more info.

Wow you pretty much sold me on that with your post! Sounds awesome! Where can I do yoga!?!?!?

Heres my opinion. Without any bit of hard work, your body isn't going to "look good" any time soon. Be it weight lifting or cardio, you have to work for a good looking body ( unless you're a genetic freak of course). There is generally no easy way, so judging by your requirements, I would say 3 days weight lifting with cardio between. You don't have to break your back doing 10000 kgs, just do a fair amount that you're comfortable with, which in time becomes very enjoyable. You'll learn to love it the more you do it. Thats my 5c. Been at gym for 3 years ^^
Oh and try and take a buddy with, makes it far more enjoyable than gyming alone. :)

Heres a very simple 3 day split http://www.revampedlifestyle.com/Weight-Training/3-Day-split.html

this is why i'm looking for decent definition over zomg build. the deadlifts i'm thinking as per pavel would do it. not those crazy lifts that might ripp off your arms just train all over at once.

russian kettlebells is also not to get bigger, but stronger and get nice definition. it's doing to thing without using things to assist you in getting that rep down as most of the get-me-strong machines is in the gym... aka free weight program.

the spartacus one looks interesting, i've seen some of those before and should not kill you in the process as everything is to be done with moderation.

not to be a prick:
i doubt that you will teach me the yoga i'm looking for. it's specifically the one that works the tree in correct accordance over just letting the snake coil or plain vanilla stretching + breathing.

in fact without the assumptions you might find me to be more natural that most people out there. it's not the eating plan, it's getting back into shape after long time being away from it all.

the "fat rubber ball" effect only comes for being excessive and not properly managing both ends of the coin. simplest ex : eat 20 eggs + 400pups, quit the pups but still eat 20 egss == fat ass.

next time read my op and see that i've asked for none of your concerns, but only how do i get to that point again and what to do apart from the normal things out there.

main problem is that i've got too many ideas as to getting down again. i love to peddle over the things to do in succession apart from just getting down and doing it. you are correct, it's work-out not thought-out.

as i've said to our guru here :
how do i get to that point again and what to do apart from the normal things out there.
