The Iburst modems

How much are they really worth? I'm talking about the dinky USB model. I keep hearing the R49 offer on the radio thinking it would be a helluva lot more appealing to customers if you didn't get suckered into spending a grand and a half on the modem.
 
The modems are probably only worth about 5% component wise, BUT since they can only be used on "that" companies system they are pretty much worthless in the real world.:eek:
 
What about other countries? IBurst is widely used in Australia etc. I think the company needs to be challenged on extortion of the modem prices.
 
I'm not sure to what extent "they" control the prices for the modems since if you look at the "iBurst Wireless Card" for example, in Australia it goes for $299aud which works out to R1,809.72 so it's pretty much in line with what it sells for here.
