right lets give some feedbak here and get all our eggs in one basket.

A while back I put up some places here to order lappies from after having placed an order with Provantage. I ended up cancelling and going to XoticPC and buying the Asus G51Jx for a lot more but a lot better service.

Now for the tricky part.....
I see many questions asking what you will pay in customs etc here. Currently my lappie is waiting at capemail and I have to prove:
how much I paid
my invoice matches the one in the box
the amount I paidd through EFT matches the item price.

Heading on Tues to capemail and will state here exact amount %-wise on how much I will need to pay.

Will refuse to pay a duty on the price of the UPS postage and see how far I get.

On Tues I ewill post here on my brand new spanking new i7 6GB lappie the prices that I can expect.

I am very impressed with Xotic PC anf Justin W so ak for him by name when dealing with them.

Asus ? Not a very good brand in the 13 months I did support for Laptops Direct & Ebuyer in the UK I have had endless problems with them. Hardware failure being the primary one. Hdd replacement MOBO replacement DVD drive failure these are all common issues. Personally I would not spend my hard earned cash on a Asus. I know of one client who had 4 laptops replaced in a space of 3 months. So maybe you found a good supplier but not a very good product. Good luck with your purchase.

throw in the 2 year asus global warranty and the thermal paste to keep my cpu ans gpu a lot cooler do some research instead of using the discourse you are throwing out here.
 
Oh and not to mention that the ROG brand name behind the laptop. Sure it's not alienware but you seem to be one of the few who can afford thier price.
 
No I am NOT from that hack over priced bunch of con artist. I am just telling you my expierence with Asus. I am fully aware of the 2 year warranty they arre the only one I know who does actually give you 24 months. For your sake I hope I am proved wrong. Good luck mate
 
Typing this on my Asus 1000HE netbook ordered from the USA.

Great notebook, 100% reliable and great construction. Certainly one of the better brands out there.

Asus have a great name and make most of the desktop performance motherboards.
 
I was tempted by Asus but ended up grabbing a Lenovo Y550, which is from the Ideapad range, off of eBay. Ended up paying around half I would've paid for it locally and, like the Asus, it also comes with an international warranty, though this is one of the few non-Thinkpad models that offers this.
So far the machine is superb and performs fine for my needs, and thus 99.9% of people out there's, as I'm hardly a novice and use it daily for work. I had no issues at customs and only had to pay VAT upon collection.
It was shipped via USPS International Express, with insurance and I received it within 9 working days.
 
I had an Asus and after 13 months the battery packed up. I then realised that it was not covered by the 24 month warranty.

Well I suppose we can all pick a brand that we have had issues with. I use my current Acer for 2 years now and in that time thegfx card has fried twice due to poor ventilation and me using it almost 16 hours every day :P The lesson learnt was find a laptop with:
better ventilation + better warranty + better RAM (as it is an upgrade) + windows 7(again because it is an upgrade) + some customization to compliment my overuse + an new bag to drag it arround between Norway and SA regularly. There were a few local laptops that looked ok but incredible con.. men are charging double for a laptop with a lot less than..

6GB RAM
windows 7
thermal paste
one of the best laptop graphics cards
500GB HDD which I am going to upgrade at end of year for solid state when they will cost about half.
targus gaming laptop
2 year global warranty (I live between Norway and SA)

One will only appreciate this bargain when one sees this model in SA if it ever gets here and remember the customization that I am sure none of the local retailers offer.
Remember this price market and remember this laptop is also still very new on the market and wait a bit to see how much value it is for money when there is something to compare it with.

After customs i expect final price of R13000.

only amonthsNorwegian wage but the same laptop would cost also double in Norway
