The iPad2 tips and tricks thread

Air Video. It streams and will, with a click of the button, convert content to a iPad compatible format and load it into itunes for viewing away from the network.

Cool, though AVPlayerHD does not need to convert to any format because it is able to play it.

Can the iPad (2) handle linked PDF files? I have a folder of ebooks where one of the files is a table of contents that links the other files, etc
Can you move entire folders (of PDF) into the iPad?

Poor wifi performance

Hope this hasn't been asked before...

Have a TP Link router with a 9db flat panel aerial. In my house about 15 metres from the aerial, using a (Dell) Windows laptop I get 20% signal strength and this is sufficient to connect to the net, etc.

However, the iPad 2 won't work more than 8 metres away. The bars in the signal indicator fade away after 3 metres and disappear totally after 8 metres. I have tried restarting, upgrade the OS and everything I can think of.

Are any other iPads having poor range?

Thanks

Is it limited to your Ipad?

I have the same problem but I'm pretty sure it is my router. Signal goes from good to crap in a few metres of my house. Happens on my Ipad, Laptop, Samsung galaxy S2 and I also experienced it on my BlackBerry before I got the Samsung.

I have a Billion 7300GA wifi router.

Want to open all youtube vids in Safari instead of the app?

Since this tip is iOS in general I'm going to cross post it in the iPad and iPhone Tips/Tricks thread. . .

To disable the Youtube app - go to Settings>General>Restrictions> and toggle YouTube (under allow) to off. From then on any Youtube link should open in Safari.

I don't know how common this is, but after I was getting annoyed with not being able to buy anything I wanted in the AppStore, a friend suggested I switch to Kenya.

I moved my account across, and my SA Credit Card still works, now I have access to all the apps I want.

Don't know if this is mentioned anywhere else, or something similar, but thought I'd mention it.

So CC won't work with the US store ...? I'm also on the Kenya store at the moment but buying vouchers sounds like a pain....

I went with a US account from the start. If you buy a big enough voucher each time it's not really much of a pain ;)

Personally flipping between different stores sounds like more of a pain to me. Sign up for a US account first time and be done with it.

Ok so set up a fake address etc...? Guess I'll have to go that way.

Also is it possible to set a dark theme with Tapatalk on the iPad..?

How do you change your iPad from SA account to USA account? Do you lose all your bought apps?

+1

Some users, like Bevonk, worry about FBI wiretapping, possible extradition to the US for computer crimes, the CIA zip lining into your house and kidnapping you or other semi or para-military risks and political issues. The rest of us just buy vouchers, then apps and move on. :-)

Ok.

I am fed up with iOS 6.x - it still is broken. Fubar. Kaputt.

Is there any way I can upgrade from 6.x to 5.x, even if it means that I'll lose all my apps and stuff? Which I won't mind, can always download and reinstall.

Note that I call that an upgrade as it will be an upgrade from a broken OS to a working OS.

Did you save your SHSH blobs? If you didn't then no, you cant downgrade to 5.

It sounds like a pain but it also makes budgeting very easy.

It's also fantastic spending money...which you already spent ages ago. I buy $100 at a time and it's great when I get to <$50 and I don't really have to cry over it because I actually paid for it like 3 months ago.

What is the problem you are having?

iOS6 has been bulletproof for me and my battery (on the iPhone) is astounding in comparison.
