Latest update. UK market a new 1.9 diesel as well with 122kw & 360nm. UK models also get a bigger & better infotainment system than local models.

"When it comes to getting the job done, there's no vehicle more suitable than the Isuzu D-Max - a rugged all-rounder that just works. Master of all trades and the perfect blend of rugged capability whether off-road or load-lugging; paired with performance and comfort.

For the new generation D-Max; the biggest change is under the bonnet. A brand new 1.9 litre turbo diesel engine has been fitted, which produces 164 PS and 360 Nm of torque. The engine builds upon D-Max's workhorse character and retains the 3.5 tonne towing capacity and over 1 tonne payload whilst providing a quieter, more refined and economical driving experience. Another key benefit is that the new engine meets Euro 6 standards without the need for the addition of AdBlue.

As per previous D-Max models, Shift-On-The-Fly 4x4 is a key feature of the 17MY truck. The rotary dial allows the driver to select four-wheel drive on the move and is also equipped with low range gears.

The range-line up from the much-loved D-Max is retained; Utility, Eiger, Yukon, Utah and Blade with a range of single, extended and double cab variants available.

The entry-level Utility D-Max, priced from £15,749 (CVOTR) comes equipped with LED daytime running lights, Hill Start Assist, Variable Hill Descent Control, Bluetooth connectivity, power windows and air conditioning.

Eiger double cab (from £20,499 CVOTR) adds a reversing camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, body coloured bumpers, audio system with CD player and 6 speakers.

Yukon (from £20,499 CVOTR) adds 18-inch alloy wheels, silver side steps, new 7-inch multi-function touchscreen, LED rear lights, Cruise Control, rear load liner and a leather steering wheel.

Utah (from £24,149 CVOTR) takes comfort up a notch with keyless entry and push button start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, DAB digital radio, roof bars, leather upholstery with heated front seats, rear parking sensors and automatic air conditioning.

The range-topping Blade (from £26,999 CVOTR) adds tinted windows, 9-inch multi-function touchscreen, remote locking lower tailgate, Blade puddle lamps, front and rear parking sensors, and a colour-coded Aeroklas canopy or sports bar with roller cover.

Finally, the Isuzu D-Max comes with a five-year / 125,000-mile warranty, and was the first pick-up in the UK to be offered with such a comprehensive peace-of-mind package. Running costs are kept down by 12,000-mile or 24-month service intervals, five years' roadside rescue and recovery including European cover, a three-year paint warranty, and a six-year anti-corrosion warranty."

Isuzu KB X-Rider : Specs and Pricing in SA

Following the success of last year's "special edition" offering, the X-Rider now permanently joins the Isuzu KB line-up.

First introduced just prior to the Isuzu KB facelift, the 700 limited-edition X-Riders sold swiftly, prompting General Motors South Africa to now make it a permanent fixture of the Isuzu KB line-up. With the addition of the KB 250 X-Rider 4x2 Double Cab, the KB line-up swells to 19 derivatives.

Enhanced visual appeal

18-inch alloy wheels and blacked out bumper guard give the KB X-Rider a macho presence.

Using the KB 250 as a starting point, the X-Rider badge brings with it striking diamond-cut 18-inch alloy wheels, a black bumper guard with integrated fog lamps, tubular side steps, a sports bar with X-Rider decals and blacked out B-pillars. Those cool-looking wheels are wrapped with 255/50 Grabber AT all-terrain tyres.

Buyers can choose from 3 colours -- Summit White, Switchblade Silver or "Pull Me Over" Red.

Inside, you get leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather gear-lever boot and splashes of piano black trim. You'll also notice red stitching on the seats, steering wheel and gear-lever boot. X-Rider logos are embroidered onto the front headrests and the red "X" badge appears on the door trims, too.

There's plenty inside to remind you that this is an X-Rider.

Proven engine

The X-Rider is powered by the brand's proven "high output" 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine that delivers 100 kW and 320 Nm, enough to give the X-Rider a 2.1 tonne braked trailer towing capacity. Note that a heavy-duty towbar is standard fitment.

The X-Rider sells for R388 400, and comes backed with a 5-years/ 120 000 km warranty and roadside assistance programme, a 5-years/unlimited mileage anti-corrosion warranty and a 5-years/ 90 000 km service plan. Service intervals are 15 000 km or twelve months.

Isuzu permanently adds X-Rider to local KB range

Back in July 2016, Isuzu introduced the apparently limited edition X-Rider to its local KB range. And now, after selling the 700-odd units of this derivative, the bakkie-builder has decided to add it as a “permanent fixture”.

The newest (well, not really) addition to the local KB range is called the KB 250 X-Rider 4×2 double-cab. The KB X-Rider is powered by the high-output (100 kW/320 N.m) version of the brand’s 2,5-litre turbodiesel mill.

It boasts diamond-cut 18-inch alloys (with red Isuzu-badged centre caps), 255/50 Grabber all-terrain rubber, a black bumper guard (with integrated foglamps), tubular side steps, a sports bar in black (with X-Rider decals) and blacked-out B-pillars.

Other standard features include a tow bar, leather upholstery, plenty of piano black trim inside, red stitching (on the seats, steering wheel and gear-lever boot), the X-Rider insignia embroidered onto the front headrests and remote keyless entry. The X-Rider is available in three colours (white, silver or red).

So, how much? Well, the double-cab model comes in at R388 400, which is some R22 020 more expensive than when this derivative launched last year.

2017 Isuzu D-Max (KB)

Nice but in silver or white, good price for what you get.

I concur...relatively-speaking it's pretty good value.

These KB's are incredibly tough.

I do think Isuzu should have kept the high end model's infotainment system.

It could have been a USP at this price.

Really great bakkie this. Test drove a 4x4 last weekend and fell in love. Not the most powerful, not the best, but definitely one of the nicest looking ones out there at the moment. Hoping for the new interior in our models.

Isuzu's new X-Rider bakkie is here to stay!

The Isuzu KB X-Rider returns as a permanent fixture after proving to be a successful seller while in its limited status, offering enhanced value and stand out styling.

'Back with a bang'

South African users can now choose from 19 KB derivatives in three body types, the newest addition to the range officially badged as the KB 250 X-Rider 4x2 Double Cab.

The starting point is – as before - the high-output 2.5-litre power plant, which has done sterling service in the KB range since its September 2015 introduction as part of wider facelift. With 100kW and 320Nm of torque, this common rail direct injection turbodiesel gives performance in keeping with the X-Rider’s sporty and recreational positioning.

At R388 400, Isuzu says the newcomer represents a unique blend of versatility and comfort. The most obvious visual cues are stylish diamond-cut 18inch alloys with their red “Isuzu” centre caps, the black bumper guard with integrated fog lamps, tubular side steps/sports bar combo in black with X-Rider decals, and the blacked out B-pillars. The wheels are shod with low-profile 255/60 Grabber AT all-terrain rubber. This domestic package is unique to the X-Rider.

There’s a heavy-duty tow bar as standard, giving the X-Rider a 2.1-tonne braked trailer towing capacity. And with peak torque kicking in at just 1800r/min (and remaining constant all the way to 2800r/min).

'Style and grit'

The interior, though, is most definitely not of the workhorse variety. Rather, it is where functionality and elegance come together in the interests of creating a comfortable and user-friendly environment.

Features include:

Full leather upholstery
Leather steering wheel
Leather gear-lever boot
Piano Black door trim
Piano Black trim on air vents, radio and front console

Adding some style to the cabin comes in the form of red stitching on the seats, steering wheel and gear-lever boot. The X-Rider insignia is embroidered on the front headrests, with a red ‘X’ in the same font also appearing on the door trims.

Remote keyless entry, satellite controls on the steering wheel, air conditioning and projector headlights with daytime running lights all contribute to car-like levels of comfort, convenience and safety.

All Isuzu KB models are sold with a fully-comprehensive five-year or 120 000km warranty or roadside assistance programme, a five-year or unlimited mileage anti-corrosion warranty and a five-year or 90 000km service plan.

Service intervals are 15 000km or twelve months for all derivatives.

All I'm seeing is something that's better with more features elsewhere in the world that we in SA still pay a premium price for.

When I see a 2 inch monochrome screen in any new car in 2017 my first reaction is GTFO

GMSA should bring this to SA. The Isuzu MU-X. KB Bakkie based SUV.

Of course they won't as it will compete directly with the Chevy Trailblazer

Styling is nicely toned down, does not look like it's trying too hard - unlike some bakkies with way to many stickers and added tupperware.

Let's not forget 2010 - KB72 does 12 243 km in a 72 hour period at an average speed of 170,047 km/h. These numbers significantly exceeded the previous records of 11 520,664 kilometres and 160,009 km/h held by a 2,7-litre Toyota Hilux petrol engine pick-up.

No other bakkie has ever managed to beat that record since because no other bakkie since has been built so well that it can withstand 72 hours of being driven at an average speed of 170 km/h.

..... with a rev counter.
