The IT executive with the highest salary

MTN CEO Rob Shuter’s salary of R43 million was the highest of any ICT executive over the past year, followed by Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub with R38 million.

While these pay packages seem high in a country where the average salary in the formal sector is R21,432 per month, the reality is that many of these executives can earn much more overseas.

Blilsem that's a truckload of money! How can anyone do R43m worth of work in a year?

Yeah it's more about making a good strategic plan and then making sure all the clowns underneath you all tow the line to get that strategy across the line. Also have to take into account that even if you have a long term vision, as soon as your business is JSE listed you need to be deliverying every quarter too so your plan needs to cater for short term and long term growth which can be very difficult.

MTN has revenue of approx. $15b/year. If he can grow or retain that even a little better than the next person (while maintaining costs of course), he would be well worth it.

I’ve always found it hilarious that they compare Vodacom SA CEO pay vs MTN Group? like duh, MTN should pay more.. but also shows how over paid the other is!
