The "its water damaged" lie

A friend's j700 came back with the same BER: water damage diagnosis.
I took it to one of those small pakistani cellphone shops. R150 later. Sorted.

Interesting topic.
Am currently working with insiders on this issue...
I think Vodacom's corrupt bubble will be popped soon, and boy am I looking forward to it...

Thanks.

Since this was my original thread, please do PM me the updates (with your real name, perhaps we will be working together already?).

The momentum is building. Another source bought a brand new phone, still sealed from a Vodashop, a technician "tweaked" it not to work, phone was put back into box and sent to Vodacare for a repair. Guess what? WATER DAMAGE. Hmmm, straight from sealed box, in a PC assembly workshop straight to the water excuse (battery terminal had just been disconnected).

Vodacom still has not replied to my emails when I asked for a reply. The people I included on the mailing were (as they were all CC'd in):
Gugu Khomo ([email protected])
Rashieda Jattiem ([email protected])
Lomarie Kelso ([email protected])
Patrick Skeates ([email protected])
Vodacare Canal Walk Reports (Retail) ([email protected])

Maybe I said the word "bull****" in my email, but they will be exposed for not honouring warranties and fraudulently using the water damage excuse.

Interesting to note on my mothers phone is that it LIVES in a pouch in her handbag (irritating as whenever we call it goes to voicemail it takes her so long to answer :p ). She's not like some teenager taking a phone into the bathroom when bathing or kitchen when cooking. So I find this even more unbelievable.

It may be taking some time, but these useless people WILL fix her phone as agreed.

PLEASE keep the reports coming in. A huge amount of valuable information has been collected among the various internet forums.

It is not only Vodacom that are involved in this scam - Virgin Mobile are in it too.

My phone began rebooting itself continuously in Feb. I dropped it off at the Virgin Mobile shop at Canal Walk. The phone went to Allied Repairs in Jhb, who informed me that my phone was water-damaged and BER. (beyond economic repair).

I sent Virgin a few nasty emails, asking them to be honest and to honour the warranty on my phone. Nobody replied.

I then had to pay R188 to get my phone back, which I did - yesterday.

Now grab this - my phone works perfectly, and has a the latest WM6 ROM installed.

I'm not sure if I should take Virgin to the small claims court, and get my R188 back, or if I should just keep quiet and be happy that my phone is working again - I still owe VM 4 instalments on it.

I have a feeling they tried the 'water damage' stunt on me, but decided to just repair the phone when I made a noise.

Ooh yummy. SDR.
I am working with a "willing" insider.
But sure, we can hook up, but what you have so far is much better.

I fixed my 8100's 'liquid damage' with a torx screwdriver and a r25 can of compressed air.

JK8 had suggested there could be some FOD in there and there was.

Why not get Carte Blanche involved? Get Susan Puren to investigate.

Yes, Derek Watts sensationalist ways can make a tube pf Pringles look satanic...
I hate that show, but this is a good idea, since people eat what the media squirts at them. Might just work.
