So I am going to be in Cape Town on the weekend the Met is taking place.

Is it any good? Should i make the effort to go? Whats the ticket cost for the tents, for the normal areas etc (are there even normal areas or just the tents) ?

If i go, do i have to get all dressed up?

Sorry for all the questions, have no clue about this stuff, but saw the add on tv and thought maybe i should have go.

It's worthwhile when you are with a group of friends and have some exposure or interest in the races. I wouldn't go alone.

There are normal areas and the tent areas are company VIP areas. Some organisations may book a tent and have VIP tickets for sale.

You don't have to dress up but it's part of the fun. If you are dressed up you can slip into VIP areas and after parties easier.

I plan to take a group of people along, but i want to get my ducks in a row before even bringing it up.

Where do you buy tickets, i dont see anything on the likes of computicket - for either normal or VIP tickets?

True, dressing up will add to the exprience.

Normal tickets - R150

For VIP and afterparty tickets check out the sponsors like 5FM, Virgin Mobile, etc.

And yes, the fillies are gorgeous. Take a camera.

Thank you.

No lucking finding anything about the VIP tents - seems like you have to know somebody to get into one of the tents.

Is the normal tickets worth it? I mean, do you get a reserved seat, shade, and access to food and beverages and stuff like that?

Do the guys who rock up in the normal section get all dressed up or is that for the VIP and tent people mainly?

You don't get a reserved seat but there is enough space on the stand and enough shade. Most people mill around the whole day from ring to track to stand to tote to beverages. Dressing up is for everyone, the craziest costumes are in the public area. Lots of stalls and vendors. I saw something about booking picnic spots, check the site.
