Slight update. Bit more power up to an even 400bhp & newer infotainment system.

Already recognised as the most dynamically capable, performance-focused Jaguar, the F-Type sports car continues to evolve, with a fresh look, state-of-the-art infotainment system and world-first ReRun app that combines vehicle data with GoPro video to enhance the driving experience.

Since launch in 2012, Jaguar's all-aluminium two-seater has firmly established itself as the best-selling sports car in its segment in its home market and has won nearly 160 awards worldwide. The unrivalled balance of seductive design, stunning performance and outstanding dynamics has always made the Jaguar F-Type unique, in a range that has evolved to include Coupé bodystyles, manual transmissions and intelligent all-wheel drive.

The new Jaguar F-Type range offers even more driver-focused technology and a broader model range than ever, comprising 28 derivatives from the purist appeal of the rear-wheel drive, 340PS F-Type to the 200mph, all-wheel drive F-Type SVR - Jaguar's all-weather supercar.

Every Jaguar F-Type now features the Touch Pro infotainment system. Its super-fast responses, intuitive tablet-style operation, intelligent navigation functions such as Share ETA and online services such as real-time traffic and live weather reports make every journey more rewarding and put a world of information at the driver's fingertips.

True enthusiasts will be able to capture and share their driving experiences using the new ReRun app developed in collaboration with GoPro. In a world-first, ReRun combines real-time video from the driver's GoPro with key vehicle performance data including speed, throttle position, gear selection, braking force and g force. The high quality video - including unique 'highlights' sections - can be downloaded to the driver's smartphone and shared on social media.

The Jaguar F-Type's award-wining design is stronger and more focused, with clearer visual range differentiation thanks to model-specific front bumpers. Full LED headlights boost visual appeal still further and help improve driver safety and comfort.

The addition of lightweight slimline seats and new chrome and aluminium trim finishers heighten the driver-focused feel of the interior and perfectly complement the enhanced interior colour schemes including the Siena Tan leather option now available across the range.

To mark the introduction of the new F-Type range Jaguar has developed the exclusive 400 SPORT launch edition, which will go on sale worldwide but for one model year only. Power from the new 400PS version of the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine is complemented by an uprated chassis comprising the Super Performance braking system, Configurable Dynamics and 20-inch wheels with a unique Dark Satin Grey finish.

For that money- rather buy a Porsche Boxster / Cayman-
These things are terrible to drive, too much power, too little traction and they don't do corners well

Jaguar F-Type handed minor facelift, new trim levels

Jaguar’s all-aluminium two-seater sportscar has just been handed a subtle facelift that includes visual revisions and two new trim levels for the V6 model.

The range has furthermore been broadened in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience, although it’s not yet clear how this will affect the local line-up.

The facelift includes a new set of LED headlamps as well as revised bumpers. The only notable changes made to the interior appear to be the slimmer and lighter seats and the revised infotainment system, the latter now including a “ReRun” app developed with help from GoPro.

Something called the “400 Sport launch edition” model has also been added to the range, although it will be available only for a year. It features an uprated chassis and braking system as well as a more powerful 295 kW supercharged V6 engine.

Also new to the range is the R-Dynamic trim level, offered with either of the two power outputs of the V6. This adds bigger wheels and gloss black trim for the front splitter, bonnet vents, side sills and rear diffuser.

Interesting. I take it you have driven one.

Been fortunate enough to drive all...

Haven't driven the new turbo charged Boxster's/Cayman's but the naturally aspirated ones (esp the GTS's) were far more planted and agile to drive compared to the F Types...

Jaguar F-Type Facelifted for 2017

Jaguar's F-Type sportscar has been a success story for the brand since its launch a few years back, but the time has come for it to receive a mild facelift. Here's what the 2018 Model Year Jaguar F-Type has to offer.

The Jaguar F-Type has been facelifted for the 2018 model year and now offers a bit more for the enthusiasts. The range now comprises 28 versions with the option of rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, coupe or convertible body style. The Jaguar F-Type receives the updated Touch Pro infotainment system, pinched straight from the Jaguar Land Rover parts bin. Featuring tablet-like operation, this system is a big leap forward. The design of the Jaguar F-Type has not changed dramatically, but there are slight updates to the front bumpers, while full LED headlights have been fitted.

For the GoPro action camera junkies, the car now features the ReRun app, which according to Jaguar, "combines real-time video from the driver's GoPro with key vehicle performance data including speed, throttle position, gear selection, braking force and g-force. The high-quality video - including unique 'highlights' sections - can be downloaded to the driver's smartphone and shared on social media." That sounds like a lot of fun, actually!

There's also a new special edition, called the 400 Sport. It'll be on sale for just one year and features uprated output of 295 kW from its 3.0-litre supercharged V6 motor. More powerful brakes, configurable dynamics, unique alloy wheels, plus 400 Sport badges round off this limited production model. An R-Dynamic model joins the range and features expanded trim levels for the two V6 versions.

Save the manual! Jaguar SA adds three-pedal F-Type

Over the past few weeks, we’ve reported on Volkswagen SA’s plans to kill off the manual Golf GTI, as well as the news that BMW will soon no longer offer three-pedal versions of its M3 and M4 in South Africa.

While the decisions are obviously based on lacklustre local sales of stick-shift models, it still seems somewhat of a pity, particularly to enthusiasts like us.

But Jaguar South Africa appears to be bucking the manual-killing trend. Yes, the local arm of the British automaker will actually add manual derivatives to its F-Type range with the upcoming facelift.

While the pre-facelift line-up comprises ten derivatives, each powered by an eight-speed automatic transmission, the updated range will feature as many as 18 variants, including four manual models.

The 250kW, 3,0-litre, supercharged V6 F-Type Coupé will be available with a manual gearbox, priced at R1 076 896 (specifying the auto will add R13 310 to the price).

The 280 kW Coupé will also be offered with three pedals, coming in at R1 195 196. The same will apply to the convertible models, with the 250 kW version priced at R1 094 496 and the 280 kW variant at R1 212 796.

New all-wheel-drive models will also be added to the local range, along with four limited edition 400 Sport models. The latter each features a further enhanced version of the forced induction V6, tuned to deliver 294 kW (and also gain a smattering of special edition badging, beefier brakes, the Configurable Dynamics system and special 20-inch alloys).

The range-topper will now be the V8-powered, 423 kW F-Type SVR Convertible AWD, priced at R2 368 386.

DOWNSIZING STRIKES! JAGUAR F-TYPE GOES FOUR-POT…

The Jaguar F-Type is a thrilling little two-seater, particularly when kitted out with the British brand’s beefy supercharged 5,0-litre V8. But now Jaguar has added a downsized, four-cylinder engine to its F-Type range…

The new 2,0-litre turbocharged Ingenium petrol engine is the same unit used in other parts of Jaguar’s passenger vehicle range, but in the new F-Type derivative it offers peak outputs of 220 kW and 400 N.m of torque. This, according to the Whitley-based brand, is enough to take the entry-level model – which features an eight-speed automatic transmission – from 0-100 km in 5,7 seconds and on to a top speed of 250 km/h.

As the new base model, the four-pot F-Type boasts a claimed 16% improvement in fuel consumption and a 52 kg weight loss, when compared to the V6-equipped model. Despite the smaller engine, Jaguar insists that this F-Type will retain its enviable soundtrack thanks to a “meticulously tuned active exhaust”.

The newest member of the F-Type family also comes fitted with a fresh set of 18-inch alloy wheels, complemented by 355 mm front and 325 mm rear brake discs. Bigger wheels and brakes are optionally available.

Jaguar says that the new four-cylinder F-Type will be available in European markets soon, priced from £49 900 (about R860 000). Local arrival dates and pricing have yet to be announced.

Four-cylinder Jaguar F-Type revealed with 296bhp

Four-cylinder engine is the smallest yet offered in the F-Type; new entry-level car to be priced from £49,900

A four-cylinder Jaguar F-Type has been revealed as the new entry-level model in the F-Type line-up. It will go on sale from £49,900 with first deliveries slated for the summer.

With a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 296bhp and 295 lb ft, the new model is 39bhp down on the rear-wheel-drive F-Type V6 but is capable of reaching 60mph from rest in 5.4sec and hitting a top speed of 155mph. That matches the V6 on 0-60mph time but is 7mph down on that model's maximum speed.

The new Ingenium engine is the most powerful four-cylinder unit Jaguar has ever offered and gives the entry-level F-Type the highest specific output of any model in the line-up, at 148bhp per litre.

Jaguar says the four-cylinder F-Type offers combined economy of 39.2mpg, which represents a 16% improvement over the V6 F-Type, in part thanks to a weight reduction of 52kg. The four-cylinder model has a kerb weight of 1525kg in coupé form and 1545kg as a convertible.

Most of the weight saving comes from over the front axles, and Jaguar says this also improves the car’s weight distribution, shifting 1% of the car’s mass towards the rear; the car now has a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, according to Jaguar. The suspension has also been tweaked all round to suit the reduced weight, as has the power steering.

The new model will only be available only with Jaguar’s eight-speed automatic gearbox, which has been tweaked specifically for use in the 1997cc twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and only in rear-wheel-drive form. The turbocharger itself also features ceramic ball bearings to reduce friction.

Jaguar also claims to have solved the problem of the four-cylinder engine’s comparative deficit in engine note compared with the V6 and V8. An active exhaust is standard on the four-cylinder model, and this can be further tweaked with a switchable active exhaust on the R-Dynamic trim cars.

Along with the rest of the updated F-Type range, Jaguar’s new 2.0-litre F-Type gets autonomous emergency braking as standard, along with lane departure warning.

The F-Type is the latest Jaguar model to receive another variant of the Ingenium engine. The F-Pace, XF and XE were all updated for the new model year with two new 197bhp and 247bhp petrol and a 237bhp Ingenium engines.

There’s also a 3.0-litre straight six Ingenium engine on its way, to replace the V6 engines in Jaguar’s line-up in the long term, as well as a 1.5-litre three-cylinder in the pipeline.
