When are we going to see the just Telkom area on this web site? A place where we can discuses issues relating to only Telkom. It could also be a benefit when any Telkom representative is browsing he/she would not have to jump around but just pop into the Telkom only area.

It might also make them take notice when they see just how many posts are in this area. Yip I know it would most likely take up most of the space here but it just might be worth it.

this is the 'just telkom' area, seeing that currently adsl requires a telkom line ;) other telkom area would be the dial-up/isdn section which also can't be provided without a telkom line

I was thinking the same thing the other day.

What we need in these forums is a "clean" area where we can discuss issues and invite outside companies (ISPs, Telkom, etc.) to participate without fear of mindless childish hate speach.

This area should perhaps be policed (not censored) more strictly to encourage some open dialogue with these companies.

VOTE = YES

MyADSL broadband in the Telkom area, A area for each ISP, with sticky, is probably what You mean. One for TELKOM (nice) one for Mweb and so on. All the rants can then be removed by ISP requesting mods to remove the post if it not relevant ???

Sounding good.
But not too many areas.
Perhaps a Telkom area, ISP area and Wireless Area.
Under I nice big Category "Please talk to us" or "We want your input" or "Let's work together" or somefing like that.

i still think it's fine as it is. what happens if/when comptetition arrives or the local loop is unbundled. then we have to revert back to general adsl discussion section. i like the idea of an ISP section though, instead of people having to post in the general adsl section.

The general sorta idea is to get an area which will allow them (these companies) to post where one could enter into meaningful discussions with out people being called idiots and being chased away.

For example if I was to email someone from Telkom, I could include a link to 'that area'. If this person at Telkom where to follow the link, the first thing he would not see is "F#ck Telskum", "I hope they all die", "Steve White is cross-dresser" and so on.

If I was from another company and was greeted with such comments I would think (a) no chance for a mature discussion here or (b) screw you to.

ok that makes sense, as long as people realise that once these company reps are present on the forum, we have a better chance of change by being polite to them instead of the name-calling. but that being said, i can understand the frustration of users towards said companies especially when a straight and reasonable answer cannot be provided by them, so general adsl section should still stay. rather open a new section where each company is represented, as well as a section for ISP's where effective two-way communication can take place. if that's what you guys mean, then i'm behind it too

Yip this is what I had in mind. The problem at the moment you jump form area to area and miss some of the better discussion points and in the end it turns into the same free for all.

This type of area could make a huge impact if there are Telkom representatives here or in the future. I have though of referring Telkom here on one of my e-mail but later changed my mind because of the irrelevant stuff in between

I have to wonder how any dialogue entered into here would be any different to what the official and oft stated telkom position is. Believe it or not they probably dont think what they're doing is wrong.

Also, Telkom is a monster (in size and attitude) company. What chance do you honestly think we have of conversing with anyone with the ability to affect any change in policy?

Dont misunderstand me - its a noble idea but as to its practicality - I'm not so sure.

I have sent a few e-mails to Telkom that have in fact surprised me when I have received a response.

Don’t be surprised at what might happen if the right people are in the know. ADSL is being pushed by a lot of people within Telkom. There are those within the company that do in fact place a lot of value on how the customer feels and what he has to say.

Just by being here and ranting and raving to know one in particular make you feel good for the moment but long term it’s just that. :D

So let's keep this idea moving.

The general should be just that, general - a place to chat, share information and also to vent.

I have yet to have a meaningful discussion with anyone at Telkom. It would appear that they are sheltered employment and do not employ anyone with initiative or the ability to think outside the written script from which they all appear to be reading.

I personally believe that Telkom will not change they way they do things - they have no reason to. They are the only player on the field and there is no chance the goverment or ICASA will allow anyone else onto the field - they stand to lose too much. In effect Telkom, ICASA and the goverment are one. They all profit from ripping off the end-user.

That said, I also like the idea of an ISP section - it would make my life a lot easier to keep track of who is doing what and which ISP is at the top of the pile with regard to customer service. It would also be great to be able to refer customers to a particular site so that they can see for themselves how ISPs respond to customers so they can make an informed choice of ISP. Right now all they have is the reviews in the local PC mags and my experience - and I'm biased! ;)

So then any idea how we actually get it started. I would imagine we would need to ask who ever to set it up for us. When you think about it there is nothing to really loose in doing this if it does work then great if not we had a bash.

good idea indeed...

and since the telkom ceo has agreed to send a body over, it would be better for this rep to have one point of contact instead of browsing/searching the whole forum just to locate posts with queries directed to him.
ISP area also sounds good so users wont need to keep going to diff sites to voive their concerns.
RPM and mod team.... how about we get busy?;)

And why shouldn't they think so? They're taking full advantage of their monopoly position to maximize shareholder profit; that is the sole purpose of a corporation, and to do anything less would be irresponsible and wrong.
