so true dewd. if only there wuz a way 2 send "torrentz" of filez 2 one another bit by bit. torrentz of bitz. bitz of torrentz. hmmmmmmm, oh well. unlucky :confused:
 
Has no one heard of quotas? Ratio systems on ftps?

Anyway, Idea time, heehee, how about those with local only start asking those with international bw (especially those with uncapped) to grab things so that the local guys can grab from them? hmmmz, not exactly a new idea. As someone else mentioned upload kills us everytime.

As far as setting up an ftp, very easy, simplest way is probably to use something like WinFTP. I'm running a server right now, you're welcome to try it out ;-)

Works great... i used total commander and got 36KB average from a 512 line... i have a normal telkom 3GB, do i have any local on that or is it still Local and Int?
 
How do you mean do you have any local on that? If you're with telkom I don't think they give you local only bandwidth. In any event, because I'm in SA anyone with local bw will be able to download from my ftp with their local bw.

Also I would appreciate it if anyone who gets in to the server could reply here so that we can have a looksie ;-)
 
ISPs like Openweb and IS etc offer international Bandwith with like 30GB local... does telkom direct offer that too or is it 3GB for both?

Basically, i wana know if its taking from my 3GB cap i have by downloading from ur FTP or if telkom also offers local cap now
 
To my knowledge Telkom does not differentiate between local and international yet I stand under correction.

Also if you average 36kb, that's roughly a 1cd movie in 6 hours, 2cd in 12, average 5000mb game in almost 2 days. I guess it's not that bad. For a 512k or 384k user it's perfect. I have basically all the content you could want ;-) if anyone wants to give me a local only account to try i'd be glad to make an account for you and you can have axx to everything I have. What do you say? I obviously don't want to profit out of it and you can have your full amount of bandwidth from me, I'll just "host" for you to download :) Reason being I don't have my usual uncapped line this month on my 4mb line and I hate to see it go to waste. Any takers? 1st person to mail me at my email address will get it. If you need any more info feel free to ask, if you drop me a mail please also include your username and password you would like on my ftp. Again, in order to maintain my full upload speed only one person will be allowed to take part.

EDIT: I suppose we could also "share" the account in that if you have a 30gb cap for instance, we both use the same login details and you download 15gb and i upload 15gb thereby using up the 30gb traffic. This way you would not be purchasing an extra account but instead it would work like a torrent system whereby you would be using 15gb of your upload to download my 15gb. If that makes any sense.

Id love for some one to make a web site so that we can get this working. With a list of peoples files and a system to ask them to download. A simple forum even? Some one could easily just post the list of things they have, and use a pm system to ask people for what they want. And maybe a section for requests.I could start one. I need more info about this, hosting options(which host to use, what options to use e.t.c), donations (if any) and if people will use this. If some one could help me with this info, that would be great.
 
FTP is a simple concept and it's even simpler to set your ftp up to work on a ratio system. Problem is anyone can upload any crap in order to download x amount of good content for instance. Regardless of that, have a look at the new thread I made. Also, this will be a very small operation which could easily be carried out via IM seeing as the majority of people will not be interested.
 
Nokoff - I thank you for all that you've done. Im at work at the moment will be setting up a test ftp tonight as well, agree with the IM solution though if needed i can setup a forum quiet easy :D
